Devotional
I’m sure I’m not the only one who has felt this way.
For a long time, I believed I was worthless. Growing up, I was the “fat” kid. Girls wanted nothing to do with me. When I was younger, I brushed it off like, “Oh well.” But as I became a teenager and then a young adult… it hit different.
I shut down, I became the shy, quiet guy, I didn’t know how to talk to people because no one really talked to me. Even now, I still have to push through anxiety just to start conversations. Back then, I blamed others for being mean. As I got older, I thought, “Kids are kids.” But the truth is, some adults weren’t much different. It wasn’t always about my weight anymore — it was my quietness, my shyness, my naivety. I didn’t have the life lessons others seemed to have.
I was often ignored by women. They loved having me as a friend — just never more than that.
And during that season, I drifted further from God.
I started telling myself lies:
“I’m invisible.”
“I don’t matter.”
“It’s my fault.”
“I’m worthless.”
I did eventually meet someone. We were married for 16 years. But even then, I never truly saw my worth. I was back and forth with God — in and out — but the world had a strong grip on me. After the marriage ended, I spiraled for a while. And underneath it all, that old root was still there: worthlessness.
But here’s what changed everything.
God saved me.
And I realized something that shook me to my core:
My worth isn’t determined by what the world sees.
It’s determined by what God sees.
In Genesis 1:27, it says we are made in God’s image. Psalm 139:14 says we are fearfully and wonderfully made. Isaiah 43:4 says we are precious and honored in His sight. And John 3:16 shows just how far He was willing to go for us.
You don’t die for something worthless.
Jesus went to the cross for you.
For me.
That means our value was settled at Calvary.
For years, I measured my worth by people’s reactions. By whether I was chosen, By whether I was noticed, By whether I was loved the way I wanted to be loved.
But people will let you down. Even good people. Even church people. Not because they’re evil — but because they’re human.
God isn’t.
Romans 8:38–39 tells us nothing can separate us from His love. Nothing. His love never fails. His opinion is the only one that ultimately matters.
Over the last five years, God has been rebuilding me. He has taken me from what I saw in myself to what He sees in me. And slowly, I’ve started to see it too.
Ephesians 2:10 says we are His workmanship — His masterpiece. That means He doesn’t create junk.
You are not invisible to God,
You are not forgotten,
You are not worthless.
You are priceless.
Yes, those old thoughts still try to creep in sometimes. When they’ve been rooted deep for years, the enemy knows how to whisper them at the right moment. But we don’t have to listen.
Stand tall in Christ.
Know who you are.
Know whose you are.
If you don’t know God yet — or maybe you walked away — maybe it’s time to come home. He’s not hiding from you. He’s waiting for you to call.
You matter more than you know.
I love you all.
Prayer
Father God,
Thank You for never seeing me the way the world does. Thank You for loving me when I couldn’t love myself. Forgive me for believing lies about my worth. Help me see myself the way You see me. When old thoughts try to rise up, remind me who I am in Christ. Strengthen me to stand firm against the enemy’s lies.
For anyone reading this who feels invisible or forgotten, meet them right where they are. Let them feel Your presence. Show them their value. Draw them back if they’ve drifted away.
Thank You for calling us precious. Thank You for Jesus.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
