When You Feel Behind
Verse
’23. The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives. 24. Though they stumble, they will never fall, for the Lord holds them by the hand. ‘
Psalms 37:23-24
💭 Devotional
Good morning brothers and sisters.
Today I want to talk about something that doesn’t get said enough in church — the feeling of being behind.
Behind financially.
Behind relationally.
Behind spiritually.
Behind in life.
Sometimes we look around and it feels like everyone else caught the train… and we’re standing on the platform wondering what we missed.
But Scripture tells us that the steps of a righteous person are ordered by the Lord (Psalm 37:23–24). That means even the seasons that feel slow… even the seasons that feel unproductive… even the ones where nothing seems to be happening — are not accidents.
God doesn’t rush formation.
A seed underground looks like nothing is happening. But roots are forming before fruit ever appears.
You may feel behind.
You may feel low.
You may feel like you should be further by now.
But if you are still seeking God…
still trying…
still standing…
still showing up…
You are not behind.
You are being built.
And even if you stumble — even if you fall — you are not cast off. God upholds you with His hand.
Today isn’t about pretending everything feels amazing.
It’s about trusting that even this quiet season has purpose.
You didn’t miss the train.
You’re on the track God chose for you.
Stay planted.
Fruit takes time.
🙏 Prayer
Father God,
Today we come to You not pretending to be strong, but choosing to trust. When we feel behind, forgotten, or discouraged, remind us that You are ordering our steps. Remind us that growth is happening even when we cannot see it.
Give us patience in slow seasons.
Give us faith when fruit hasn’t appeared yet.
Hold us steady when our emotions try to tell us we’ve missed something.
We trust that You are building something deeper than we understand.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
