Devotional
Recently I watched a sermon talking about soundtracks. Not movie soundtracks, but the soundtrack of your mind. The thoughts that play over and over every single day. Because the truth is, our thoughts shape our actions, our habits, and eventually our lives.
The pastor mentioned thoughts like:
“I’m not good enough.”
“Nobody loves me.”
“I always fail.”
“I’m better than everyone else.”
“Only I can do it right.”
And honestly, those thoughts are dangerous because they are not the way God wants us to think.
He shared this quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson:
“Sow a thought and you reap an action. Sow an act and you reap a habit. Sow a habit and you reap a character. Sow a character and you reap a destiny.”
That is powerful.
The way we think truly can change everything. For years I’ve said positive thinking matters, and I still believe that. Negative thoughts will destroy us if we allow them to take root. Positive thoughts lead to positive actions and a healthier life. But even deeper than positive thinking is God-centered thinking.
Because positivity without truth only goes so far. Real transformation happens when we replace lies with what God says.
I’ve had seasons in my life where the soundtrack in my head sounded like this:
“You’re a failure.”
“You’re not worth loving.”
“You’ll never change.”
But I’m thankful to say those thoughts no longer control me.
Not because I’m perfect. Not because life suddenly became easy. But because God changed the way I think.
Romans 12:2 tells us to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. That means God wants to change the way we think. When we follow Jesus, we are not just “improved.” We are made new. 2 Corinthians 5:17 says we are a new creation. The old life is gone.
Think about that.
Your past does not define you.
Your mistakes do not define you.
Your failures do not define you.
God defines you.
And what does God say about you?
He says you are loved.
You are forgiven.
You are chosen.
You are valuable.
You are His masterpiece.
You are never alone.
You are strong through Christ.
You are redeemed.
You are worth dying for.
You are not abandoned.
You are created for a purpose.
That is the truth.
Sometimes we keep replaying old thoughts because they feel familiar. But familiar does not always mean true. The enemy loves to keep old soundtracks playing in our minds because if he can control our thinking, he can influence our lives.
Philippians 4:8 tells us to think about things that are true, honorable, pure, lovely, and praiseworthy.
Maybe today you need to change the soundtrack.
Instead of:
“I’ll never get through this.”
Try:
“God will give me strength.”
Instead of:
“I can’t do this.”
Say:
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
Instead of:
“I’ll never heal.”
Say:
“God is my healer, and I trust Him.”
Instead of:
“I am my mistakes.”
Remember:
“I am forgiven and made new.”
And yes, it’s okay to admit:
“God, I can’t do this alone.”
Because that’s where real strength begins.
So today, stop for a moment and ask yourself:
What are you thinking about?
What soundtrack keeps playing in your mind?
And does it sound more like fear… or more like God’s truth?
Because what you think about today can shape who you become tomorrow.
Prayer
Lord, help me guard my mind and my thoughts. Show me the lies I’ve been believing and replace them with Your truth. Teach me to think the way You want me to think. When negative thoughts try to take over, remind me who I am in You. Thank You for forgiving my past and making me a new creation. Help me walk in confidence, humility, peace, and faith. I know I cannot do this alone, but with You all things are possible. In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
