Change.
It’s not something many of us like to deal with. We get stuck in our ways. Comfortable in our routines. Safe in what we know.
Then suddenly — a new job opportunity comes. A new person enters your life. You have to move. A friend asks you to try something new.
Some of those made you tense up a little, didn’t they?
Maybe it’s just the introverts that feel this way… LOL. But if we’re honest, most of us feel it. Change stretches us. And stretching isn’t always comfortable.
The truth is, though, change is inevitable. Ecclesiastes 3:1 reminds us there is a season for everything. Life moves. Seasons shift. Doors open and close.
But the change we tend to fight the most?
When God starts changing us.
Because that kind of change requires humility. It means admitting, “Okay Lord… maybe I don’t have this all right.” Oof. You felt that one? I know I did — and I’m writing this.
Romans 12:2 says we are transformed by the renewing of our minds. That word transformed means a real change from the inside out. Not surface behavior. Heart-level work.
And heart-level work can sting.
God might reveal an attitude that needs adjusting. A habit that needs surrendering. A wound that needs healing. We don’t like facing those things. But Psalm 51:10 is such a simple, powerful prayer: “Create in me a clean heart, O God.” That’s an invitation for change.
I will tell you this, brothers and sisters — it gets easier to accept the changes God wants to make the more you allow them to happen.
The first time you surrender something, it feels huge. The tenth time? You start to recognize His faithfulness. You start trusting the process.
Over the past few years, I’ve gone through many changes. And instead of fighting them like I used to, now I look back and think, “Whoa… when did that happen?”
When did my reactions soften, my patience grow, did certain words stop coming out of my mouth? When did loving people get easier?
That’s the quiet work of God.
Isaiah 43:19 says He is doing a new thing. Sometimes that “new thing” isn’t around you — it’s within you.
Now listen, this may not magically make the change you’re facing feel easy. But maybe it will help you loosen your grip a little. Let go and let God.
Yes, we have free will. God won’t force transformation on us. But when we stay connected to Him — when we focus on Him — the change happens naturally. John 15:5 says apart from Him we can do nothing. But when we remain in Him, fruit grows.
And what kind of fruit? Galatians 5:22–23 tells us — love, joy, peace, patience, kindness…
One day you’ll look back and say, “When did I stop gossiping? When did I stop reacting like that? Where did all this patience come from?”
It came from abiding.
Here’s the “secret” — just focus on Him. Open your heart. Stay close. He will do the work.
The winds of change will blow. But when your roots are deep in Christ, you won’t be uprooted — you’ll be strengthened.
You’ve got this, friends.
God loves you. And I do too.
God bless. TGIF.
4️⃣ Prayer
Lord,
Change can be uncomfortable. Sometimes I resist what You are trying to do in me because it means admitting I need to grow. Help me to have a soft heart toward You. Create in me a clean heart and renew my mind. Teach me to focus on You and trust that You are doing a good work in my life.
Give me peace in the seasons of change and courage to let You transform me from the inside out.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
