Steady Through the Storm
A lot of people think that following Christ means life suddenly becomes all roses. Like once you give your life to Jesus everything is smooth sailing from there on out.
But then reality hits.
Life still has ups and downs. Good days. Bad days. Hard seasons. Unexpected problems. Being a Christ follower doesn’t mean storms disappear — it means we learn how to stand differently when they come.
And honestly… many of us know exactly what those emotional ups and downs feel like.
Before I truly came back to God, my emotions were like Indiana temperatures lately.
One day it’s 40°.
Next day it’s 70°.
Then 60°.
Then 30°.
Back to 70° again.
Up. Down. All over the place. You know what I’m saying. Most of us have lived there too. When life was good, we were riding high. When things went bad, everything crashed with it. Our emotions were completely tied to our circumstances.
But something interesting happens as you grow closer to God.
And it doesn’t happen overnight.
It happens slowly. Quietly. Over time.
As we spend time with Him… read His Word… learn to trust Him… something begins to change inside of us. The fruit of the Spirit that Paul talks about in Galatians 5:22–23 starts showing up more and more — peace, patience, self-control.
Our lives still have ups and downs. We’re still human. Hard days still come.
But the emotional roller coaster starts leveling out.
Instead of life feeling like:
100… 10… 70… 30…
It becomes more like:
50… 55… 60… 45… 50.
Steady.
Grounded.
Not because our circumstances suddenly became perfect — but because our foundation changed. Philippians 4:6–7 talks about the peace of God guarding our hearts and minds. That peace doesn’t mean problems disappear. It means our hearts are no longer ruled by them.
And sometimes the most amazing part is we don’t even notice the growth while it’s happening.
Then one day something difficult happens… and we respond differently.
Maybe calmer.
Maybe with more patience.
Maybe with trust instead of panic.
And suddenly it hits you like a brick:
“Whoa… this isn’t how I would have reacted before.”
That’s growth.
That’s God changing you from the inside out, just like Romans 12:2 talks about when it says we are transformed by the renewing of our minds.
And the trials we face along the way? They’re not wasted either. James 1:2–4 reminds us that those very challenges are part of how God builds perseverance and maturity in us.
God is shaping us through every season.
The truth is, we will never be perfect on this side of heaven. We will still have moments where we struggle, where our emotions get the best of us, where we fall short.
But if we stay close to Him, the overall direction of our life begins to change.
More peace.
More stability.
More trust.
More Christ.
And when you look back years later, you realize just how much God has done.
So embrace the process, my friends.
God wants to help you. He wants you to grow. He wants to shape you into who He created you to be.
And that transformation — slow, steady, and real — is one of the greatest gifts our Father gives us.
Love you all. God bless.
Prayer
Father,
Thank You for being patient with us while we grow. Thank You that You don’t expect perfection from us, but instead walk with us through every step of the journey.
Help us trust the process of growth. When life feels up and down, remind us that You are steady even when we are not. Shape our hearts, renew our minds, and produce Your peace inside of us.
Help us respond differently than we used to. Let Your Spirit continue changing us from the inside out so we become more like Christ every day.
We are grateful for the work You are doing in our lives, even when we don’t notice it right away.
We love You, Lord.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
