Devotional:
There’s something powerful that happens when you intentionally seek time with God. Not rushed. Not squeezed in. But set apart. Real time. Focused time.
Jesus tells us in Matthew 6:33 to seek first the Kingdom of God, not second, not when it’s convenient—but first. That means before distractions, before stress, before everything else pulling at your attention.
And if we’re honest, life gets loud. Fast. Busy. It’s easy to say, “I’ll pray later,” or “I’ll read later,” and then later never comes.
But your soul notices.
David said in Psalm 63:1 that his soul thirsted for God. That’s real, not casual. That’s hunger. And the truth is—whether we realize it or not—we’re all hungry for something. The question is: are we feeding that hunger with God, or with everything else?
Prayer isn’t just talking—it’s connection. It’s alignment. 1 Thessalonians 5:17 says to pray without ceasing, meaning stay in that posture of communication. Not perfection—just presence. God isn’t waiting for perfect words; He’s waiting for your heart.
Fasting
And then there’s fasting. That’s the one people often avoid. But fasting isn’t about punishment—it’s about priority. It’s choosing God over your flesh. Isaiah 58:6 shows that true fasting breaks chains, lifts burdens, and brings freedom. It shifts something spiritually when you deny yourself and lean into God instead.
Reading Scripture? That’s how you hear Him clearly. Without it, you start relying on feelings, opinions, and whatever the world is saying that day. But God’s Word grounds you. Centers you. Corrects you. Strengthens you.
James 4:8 says when you draw near to God, He will draw near to you. That’s a promise. Not a maybe. Not a “if you’re good enough.” Just draw near.
So if you’ve been distant, distracted, or dry—this is your reminder:
Get back to the secret place.
Turn off the noise.
Open your Bible.
Pray honestly.
Fast if God is leading you.
You don’t need a perfect routine—you just need a willing heart.
God isn’t far. He’s waiting.
Prayer:
God, I want more of You. Not just in words, but in real time and real connection. Help me to seek You first, not last. Give me discipline to pray, hunger for Your Word, and strength to fast when You call me to it. Draw me closer, and remove anything in my life that’s pulling me away from You. I don’t want distractions—I want You. In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
