Righteous Fire & Truth

Monday of Holy Week wasn’t quiet. It wasn’t soft. It wasn’t passive.

Jesus flipped tables.

In Matthew 21:12–13 and Mark 11:15–18, we see Him enter the temple and drive out those who were buying and selling. He overturned tables, called out corruption, and declared, “My house will be called a house of prayer” (referencing Isaiah 56:7).

This wasn’t random anger.
This was righteous anger.

Jesus wasn’t losing control—He was exposing what was wrong.

The temple was supposed to be a place where people met God. Instead, it became a place of distraction, greed, and empty religion. And Jesus wasn’t going to let that stand.

That hits deeper than we like to admit.

Because it’s easy to point at the temple back then… but what about our hearts now?

Are there things we’ve allowed in that don’t belong?

Distractions. Compromise. Things that crowd out God.

Sometimes Jesus flips tables in our lives too—not to hurt us, but to clean what we’ve tolerated.

And then comes Tuesday.

Tuesday of Holy Week is often called a day of teaching and confrontation.

In Matthew 21:23–27, the religious leaders question Jesus’ authority. They try to trap Him, challenge Him, and discredit Him. But Jesus doesn’t back down. He answers with wisdom, exposing their hardened hearts.

Then in Matthew 23:27–28, He speaks directly to hypocrisy—calling out those who look clean on the outside but are full of emptiness within.

That’s strong.

But it’s honest.

Jesus wasn’t interested in surface-level faith. He wasn’t impressed by appearances. He wanted real hearts—fully surrendered, fully aligned with God.

And at the center of everything, He brings it back to this:

Love God. Love people. (Matthew 22:37–39)

That’s the standard.

So Monday shows us that Jesus will confront what’s wrong.
Tuesday shows us that Jesus will speak truth—even when it’s uncomfortable.

Not to condemn us—but to call us higher.

This part of Holy Week reminds us that following Jesus isn’t just about comfort. It’s about transformation.

It’s about letting Him clean out what doesn’t belong…
and listening when He speaks truth into our lives.

Because He loves us too much to leave us the same.

Prayer

Jesus,
Search my heart. If there’s anything in me that doesn’t belong—anything that’s taken Your place—help me to let it go. Clean out what I’ve allowed to settle in. And give me a heart that doesn’t just look right on the outside, but is truly right with You on the inside. Help me to hear Your truth, even when it challenges me, and to live it out daily.
In Your name, Jesus,

Amen.
