Devotional

There’s something powerful about not just praying—but praying for each other.

In James 5:16, we’re told that the prayers of the righteous are powerful and effective. That means when you pray for someone, you’re not just saying words—you’re stepping into something that actually moves heaven and touches earth.

But let’s be honest… it’s easy to say, “I’ll pray for you,” and then forget. We’ve all done it. Life gets busy. Our own problems feel loud. And sometimes we don’t even know what to say.

Still, God calls us higher.

Galatians 6:2 tells us to carry each other’s burdens. One of the simplest—and strongest—ways to do that is through prayer. You may not be able to fix someone’s situation, but you can stand in the gap for them. You can lift them up when they’re too tired to lift themselves.

And here’s something deep—when you pray for others, it doesn’t just help them… it changes you.

Look at Job 42:10. Job’s life began to turn around when he prayed for his friends. That’s powerful. Sometimes breakthrough doesn’t come when we focus inward—but when we turn outward.

Prayer shifts perspective. It softens your heart. It reminds you that you’re not alone in this walk—and neither is anyone else.

1 Timothy 2:1 urges us to pray for all people. Not just the ones we like. Not just the easy ones. Everyone.

Even the ones who hurt you.
Even the ones who misunderstand you.
Even the ones you’d rather avoid.

That’s where it gets real.

Because praying for others isn’t always convenient—but it is always meaningful.

And Jesus reminds us in Matthew 18:20 that where two or three gather in His name, He is there. There is something special when believers come together and lift each other up. There’s unity. There’s strength. There’s presence.

So today—don’t just think about someone. Pray for them.

Send the text. Speak their name to God. Take a moment and cover them.

You never know… your prayer might be the exact thing they needed to keep going.

Prayer

Lord,
Teach me to be someone who truly prays for others—not just in words, but in action. Put people on my heart and give me the discipline to lift them up to You. Help me to carry burdens through prayer and to love people the way You do. Even when it’s hard, even when I don’t feel like it—remind me that prayer matters. Use my prayers to encourage, heal, and strengthen those around me. And shape my heart to be more like Yous in the process.

In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
