Devotional
You ever feel unfinished?
Well… in a way, you are.
And that’s not a bad thing.
God is never done working on us because we are never going to be perfect this side of heaven. Philippians 1:6 reminds us that He who began a good work in us will carry it on to completion. That means if you’re still breathing, He’s still building.
God is the perfect Teacher. The perfect Artist. Isaiah 64:8 says He is the potter and we are the clay. And clay doesn’t shape itself. It has to be molded. Pressed. Spun. Reshaped.
We are His art
— but not static art. We are living, moving, constantly-changing masterpieces.
Yes, we have our core. The personality, the gifts, the wiring He gave us from birth. But He refines us. Malachi 3:3 says He sits as a refiner and purifier of silver. That means He’s intentional. Close. Attentive. He doesn’t rush the fire — and He never leaves us in it alone.
Precious metals are refined by heat. Gems and diamonds are formed under pressure. And if we’re honest… that pressure can hurt.
The refining stages can feel rough. There are seasons where you wonder, “God, what are You doing?” Moments where all you can do is cry. Seasons where it feels like pieces of you are being stripped away.
But James 1:2–4 tells us that trials produce perseverance, and perseverance produces maturity. The pressure isn’t pointless. The heat isn’t random.
It’s shaping something eternal in you.
And here’s the beautiful part — when you walk through it with an open heart… when you welcome what God is teaching instead of fighting it… it’s still hard, but it’s not hopeless.
You begin to see Him in the everyday. In the mundane. In the small changes. You notice your reactions are different. Your patience is growing. Your perspective is shifting. 2 Corinthians 4:16–17 says outwardly we may be wasting away, but inwardly we are being renewed day by day.
Day by day.
Not all at once.
I can look back over the last five years — even just the last year — and say, “Wow, God… You’ve been working.” Things I once struggled with don’t hit the same. Things that once broke me now build me. And when you step back and see it as a whole, you realize: He never stopped refining.
Romans 8:28 reminds us He works all things together for good. Not just the easy days. Not just the wins. All things.
So yes, we are unfinished.
We will never be perfect here. We will always be tested. Always refined. But that’s not a reason to be discouraged — it’s a reason to trust the Artist.
Because every test, every lesson, every tear is polishing something in you.
So that you shine brighter with His love.
Take it one day at a time, my friends.
You are still becoming.
Love you all. God bless.
Prayer
Lord,
Thank You for not being finished with me. Even when the refining feels hard, help me trust that You are shaping something beautiful. Give me an open heart to receive what You are teaching. When the pressure feels heavy, remind me that You are close and that You never waste pain.
Help me shine brighter with Your love each day. Teach me to take it one day at a time and trust Your process.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
