Love Is a Verb

📖 Daily Devotional — “Love Is a Verb”

📖 Verse
“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud…
Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.”
1 Corinthians 13:4,7

💭 Reflection
What is love?
Real, biblical love isn’t just a feeling — it’s a verb.
A daily action. A deliberate choice.

Butterflies, sparks, and excitement are beautiful gifts, but they are not the foundation of a marriage. Those things come and go. But the choice to love — that’s what stays.

Spousal love isn’t automatic every day.
You don’t wake up with magical feelings every morning for the rest of your life.
You wake up and choose love.

You choose grace.
You choose forgiveness.
You choose patience with their annoying habits.
You choose unity in disagreements.
You choose humility instead of pride.
You choose peace instead of escalating the fight.
You choose, “We’re in this together.”

Because the truth is this:

Living with someone is not easy.
Two imperfect humans will clash.
Two strong personalities will disagree.
Two broken people will hurt each other sometimes.

But love doesn’t quit at the first inconvenience.
Love doesn’t run when it gets hard.
Love doesn’t treat feelings as the foundation — feelings change.
Choices last.

Yes — there are biblical reasons where divorce is allowed. Jesus Himself addressed them. And some relationships cannot or should not continue. But in the general foundation of marriage, God created covenant love to be a daily decision.

And many times, the way you view your spouse determines whether those butterflies ever come back.

Because here’s the secret:

When you choose love daily, the feelings eventually return.
When you stop choosing love, the feelings eventually die.

Love isn’t magic.
Love is intentional.
Love is a verb.

🙏 Prayer
Father, thank You for teaching us what real love looks like — steady, committed, and selfless. Help me choose love daily, even when it’s hard, even when emotions are low, even when life is stressful. Strengthen every marriage reading this. Bring patience where there is frustration, grace where there is hurt, and unity where there is division. Teach us to love the way You love us — with endurance, humility, and truth. Amen.
