Devotional:

Life moves fast. Responsibilities pile up, stress creeps in, and before we know it, we’ve gone an entire day without stopping to realize just how blessed we really are.

I get it—because I do the same thing sometimes.

But let’s slow down for a second. The simple fact that you woke up today? That’s a blessing. “This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it” (Psalm 118:24). Not yesterday. Not tomorrow. Today.

You’re breathing right now. Air is filling your lungs without you even thinking about it. That alone is a gift.

Life might feel like it’s falling apart. Your health might not be where you want it. Your bank account could be empty. Or maybe things are actually going really well (and I truly hope they are). But no matter where you fall on that spectrum, the truth doesn’t change:

You are blessed because you are alive.

And sometimes we stop there. We say a quick, “Thank you God for everything,” and move on. And yes—that’s okay in the moment. But don’t let that be the depth of your gratitude.

God knows your heart (1 Thessalonians 5:18), but He also desires relationship. That means talking to Him—being real, being specific.

Instead of just saying “thank you,” try this:
“God, thank You for my home. Thank You for the food I ate today. Thank You for the air I breathe, the water I drink, the sunshine on my face. Thank You for my bed, my clothes, even the small things I overlook.”

Because the truth is, the list never ends.

“Every good and perfect gift is from above” (James 1:17). Not some. Every.

And here’s something we don’t always want to hear—but we need to:
God often waits to see if we’re grateful for what we already have before trusting us with more (Luke 16:10).

If we can’t appreciate the small blessings, why would we expect bigger ones?

Material things? They’re nice, no doubt. But they’re temporary. Jesus reminds us in Matthew 6:21 that where our treasure is, that’s where our heart will be also. And material things can disappear fast—faster than we got them.

In a moment, everything could change.

So ask yourself honestly:
If everything was stripped away… would you still thank God?

You should.

Because even then—you still have life. You still have breath. And as long as you have breath, God isn’t done with you.

Stay humble. Stay grateful. Stay grounded in Him.

No matter what your life looks like right now—good, bad, or somewhere in between—don’t forget this truth:

You are blessed.

God loves you.

And so do I.

Have an amazing day.

Prayer:

God,
Thank You for today. Thank You for waking me up and giving me breath in my lungs. Forgive me for the times I overlook the simple blessings You’ve placed in my life. Help me to slow down and truly see all that You’ve given me.

Teach me to be grateful—not just in words, but in my heart. Whether I have little or much, remind me that You are enough. Strengthen my faith so that even if everything around me changes, my trust in You does not.

Help me to stay humble, to appreciate what I have, and to always give You thanks in every situation.

In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
