Devotional
“This little light of mine…”
It sounds simple. Almost childlike. But it’s powerful.
Jesus said in Matthew 5:14–16 that we are the light of the world. Not someday, when we feel ready. Not when we think we’re holy enough. He said you are.
That means your light isn’t random. It isn’t accidental. And it definitely isn’t small.
Sometimes we call it “little” because that’s how it feels. Maybe your platform feels small. Your influence feels small. Your obedience feels unnoticed. But in Philippians 2:15, we’re told to shine like stars in the sky in a crooked and dark generation. Stars don’t argue with the darkness — they just shine.
The enemy wants you to dim down. Blend in. Be quiet about your faith. Hide your testimony. Tone down your conviction. But Jesus said no one lights a lamp and then hides it under a bowl (Matthew 5:15). That light was meant to be seen.
And here’s the truth: it’s not even your light to begin with.
John 1:5 says the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. That light is Christ. When you gave your life to Him, His light moved in. You don’t manufacture it. You reflect it.
Ephesians 5:8 reminds us that we were once darkness, but now we are light in the Lord. Notice it doesn’t say we are visiting the light. It says we are light in Him. That’s identity.
So when you feel overlooked,
shine.
When you feel tired, shine, when culture pushes back, shine.
When it would be easier to stay silent, shine.
Not arrogantly.
Not aggressively.
But boldly. Humbly. Consistently.
Isaiah 60:1 says, “Arise, shine, for your light has come.” That’s not a suggestion. That’s a call.
This world doesn’t need more noise. It needs more light.
And the beautiful thing about light? Even the smallest flame changes a dark room.
So don’t despise your “little” light.
Don’t shrink back.
Don’t apologize for shining.
You were never meant to blend in with the dark.
You were designed to expose it.
Let it shine.
Prayer
Lord, thank You for placing Your light inside me. Forgive me for the times I’ve tried to dim it to fit in or avoid attention. Give me boldness to shine in the places You’ve called me. Help me reflect You clearly — not for my glory, but for Yours. Let my life point people to Jesus in everything I say and do. Strengthen me when I feel small, and remind me that Your light is never weak. In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
