Devotional

We hear it all the time: “Jesus is coming back soon.”
And if we’re honest, sometimes we wonder… What does “soon” even mean?

The truth is, we don’t know. Scripture makes that very clear. In Matthew 24:36, Jesus Himself said that no one knows the day or the hour — not even the angels in heaven. That should settle it. No timeline charts. No guessing games. No predictions that lead to confusion or fear.

But even though we don’t know when, we are told to pay attention. Jesus talked about watching and being ready in Matthew 24:42–44. He didn’t say to obsess. He didn’t say to panic. He said to be prepared.

And if you look at the world today, it’s easy to feel like His return could be very close. There are signs. There have been signs for decades. Wars, unrest, brokenness, spiritual confusion — humanity has seen waves of these things throughout history. Peter reminds us in 2 Peter 3:8–10 that God’s timing is not like ours. What feels long to us is not long to Him.

So maybe the better question isn’t “When is Jesus coming back?”
Maybe the real question is: “Am I ready right now?”

Does it matter?

Because honestly… does it matter if He comes today or 100 years from now?

It shouldn’t.

We are called to live ready. Not eventually. Not when life settles down. Not when we feel more spiritual. Right now. Today. This very second. A life surrendered to Jesus isn’t something we schedule for later — it’s something we step into now.

Paul describes this hope beautifully in Titus 2:11–13. He says God’s grace teaches us to live differently while we wait for the blessed hope — the appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ. Waiting isn’t passive. Waiting is active. It’s living with purpose. It’s choosing faithfulness in the everyday moments.

And part of that purpose is clear. Jesus gave us our mission in Matthew 28:19–20 — go and make disciples. Spread the good news. Show His love. Shine His light. This isn’t just for pastors or missionaries. This is for all of us who follow Him.

Imagine if every believer lived with that mindset:
Be ready now. Love now. Share now.

If we truly live that way, then the exact timing of His return stops being something scary or stressful. It becomes something joyful. Something we look forward to with expectation and excitement.

The second coming of Jesus is not meant to terrify believers — it’s meant to give us hope. It’s the promise that brokenness will not win. Darkness will not last forever. Jesus will return in glory, and everything will be made right.

So let’s not get caught up in arguments about dates and predictions. Let’s focus on the mission. Let’s focus on hearts. Let’s focus on eternity.

Jesus is coming back.
That truth should move us to action, not anxiety.

Praise God. Shout Amen. Rejoice in the hope we have.
And bring as many people with you as you can.

God loves you. I love you.
Let’s do this.

Prayer

Lord, thank You for the promise that You are coming again. Help me not to live in fear or distraction, but in readiness and faith. Give me a heart that longs for Your return and hands that are busy sharing Your love while I wait. Show me the people You want me to reach. Fill me with courage, grace, and compassion so others can see Your light through my life. Help me live ready today, not someday. I trust Your timing and Your plan. In Jesus’ name,

Amen.
