Devotional

Good morning… and this is the day.

Good Friday.

The day Jesus went to the cross.

And just like you said—He was crucified for every single one of us.

Not just the “good” ones.
Not just the ones who had it together.
All of us.

In Isaiah 53:3–6, it was already written—He would be despised, rejected, crushed… not for His sin, but for ours. Every mistake. Every hidden struggle. Every failure.

He carried it.

Then in Luke 23:33–46, we see it happen.

Jesus is nailed to the cross. Mocked. Beaten. Hanging there in pain. And still… He says things that don’t make sense to a human mindset.

“Father, forgive them…”

Who does that?

Even in suffering, He chose forgiveness.

And then we get to those final moments.

In John 19:28–30, Jesus says, “It is finished.”

And you said it right—He meant it.

That wasn’t a cry of defeat.
That wasn’t Him giving up.

That was a declaration.

Finished means the debt is paid.
Finished means the work is complete.
Finished means sin no longer has the final say.

Colossians 2:13–14 tells us that our debt—everything against us—was canceled and nailed to the cross.

Gone.

And 2 Corinthians 5:21 says He became sin for us so that we could become right with God.

That’s the exchange.

His perfection… for our brokenness.
His life… for ours.

This is why today matters so much.

Because the cross wasn’t just something that happened to Jesus—
it was something He chose for you.

He stayed on that cross when He could have come down.
He endured the pain when He didn’t have to.
He finished the work so you wouldn’t have to carry that weight anymore.

So yeah… today is heavy.

It should be.

But it’s also full of love.

Because if He didn’t go through Friday…
we wouldn’t get Sunday.

So today, don’t rush past it.

Sit in it.

Remember what it cost.

And remember this:

“It is finished” means you don’t have to live chained to your past anymore.

He already paid for it.

Prayer

Jesus,
Thank You for the cross. Thank You for taking what I deserved and giving me what I never could earn. Help me never take this sacrifice lightly. Let it hit my heart fresh today. Remind me that because You said “It is finished,” I don’t have to carry guilt, shame, or sin anymore. Teach me to live in that freedom every day.
In Your name, Jesus,

Amen.
