How Do You Pray to God?

How do you pray to God?

Do you follow a script?
Say the same lines every time?
Try to sound holy or polished?

A lot of us do.
I’ve done it too.

But here’s the truth:
God is our Father — and He wants us to talk to Him like our closest friend.

Not filtered.
Not cleaned up.
Not pretending.

Just real.

God wants the kind of prayer where you open up your whole heart:

  • raw
  • honest
  • frustrated
  • confused
  • hurt
  • angry
  • crying with snot and tears running down your face
  • asking “why?”
  • confessing “I don’t understand”

Because guess what?

He already knows anyway.
And He wants you to trust Him enough to bring it to Him.

The Bible is full of people who prayed like that:

  • David cried out in anger and confusion… but trusted.
  • Job poured out pain and frustration… but trusted.
  • Jeremiah, Moses, Hannah, Elijah — all of them brought their unfiltered emotions to God…
    …and still trusted Him.

That’s the key.

Trust.

Not perfect words.
Not fancy prayers.
Not sounding spiritual.

Trusting God even when you are lost, confused, angry, or hurting.

Because God’s timing isn’t our timing.
And His ways rarely make sense in the middle of the story.

“Lean not on your own understanding.”
Why?
Because most of the time, we CAN’T understand what He’s doing until much later…
sometimes not until heaven.

And that’s okay.

Last night, I had one of those moments.
Not anger — just frustration.
I talked to God honestly.
I vented.
I let it out.
Because I’m His son, and He’s my Father.

But I ended with this:

“I don’t understand… but I trust You.”

And that’s the difference.

It’s okay to let it all out.
It’s okay to yell.
It’s okay to cry.
God can handle every ounce of it.
He would rather have your honest hurt than your fake worship.

Just remember:

Trust Him in the confusion.
Trust Him in the silence.
Trust Him in the waiting.
Trust Him in the frustration.

You got this.
Love y’all.
