Growing Before the Harvest
Verses Used:
- Galatians 6:9
- Ecclesiastes 3:1
- Isaiah 40:31
Devotional:
The past couple of weeks, my devotional well has felt a little low. Not because I'm burned out or walking away from God, but more because I feel like I'm in a refilling season.
I still plan to post daily when I have the time, but I've been reminded that just like a farmer must wait for crops to grow before the harvest, sometimes we have to wait for God's work to grow inside us before there is something new to pour out. We live in a world that constantly pushes us to produce, perform, and stay busy. But Scripture reminds us that there is a season for everything (Ecclesiastes 3:1). Not every season is a harvest season. Some seasons are planting. Some are watering. Some are simply waiting.
If you find yourself in a similar place, don't automatically assume you've done something wrong. It's easy to think that feeling quiet, unproductive, or spiritually dry means you've failed somewhere. Sometimes that's true and God may be calling us back to repentance. But many times, God is simply doing work beneath the surface that we cannot see yet.
Hidden Growth Still Matters
A seed spends a long time underground before anyone sees a single green sprout. During that hidden season, growth is still happening. Roots are forming. Strength is developing. The foundation is being established.
Our walk with God often works the same way.
There are seasons when prayers seem quiet. Seasons when inspiration doesn't come as easily. Seasons when progress feels slow. Yet God is still working. God may be strengthening your faith, teaching patience, deepening your trust, or preparing you for something that hasn't arrived yet.
Isaiah 40:31 tells us that those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. Notice that strength is renewed. Sometimes renewal requires rest. Sometimes growth requires waiting. Sometimes preparation requires stillness.
So don't get discouraged if you're not seeing immediate results.
Keep praying.
Keep reading your Bible.
Keep talking with God.
Keep showing up even when feelings aren't as strong as they once were.
Galatians 6:9 reminds us not to grow weary in doing good because at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we don't give up. God's timing is perfect, even when it feels slower than we would like.
Maybe you're not in a season of harvest right now. Maybe you're in a season of growth. Maybe you're in a season of rest. Either way, trust that God knows exactly what God is doing.
The harvest will come when the season is right.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for reminding me that not every season is meant for harvesting. Help me trust You during the quiet seasons just as much as during the fruitful ones. Give me patience when growth feels slow and faith when I cannot see what You are doing beneath the surface. Help me remain faithful in prayer, in Your Word, and in spending time with You. Strengthen me for the season I'm in and prepare me for what lies ahead according to Your perfect timing. In Jesus' name,
Amen.
