Devotional
It’s okay to dream. It’s okay to make plans. It’s okay to want things in life. God created us with vision, desire, and purpose. He placed gifts inside of us and gave us the ability to think ahead, to hope, and to build. But the key is this — we must always keep our dreams, plans, and wants open to change according to God’s plan.
Sometimes we hold so tightly to what we think life should look like that we forget who is really in control. Proverbs 16:9 reminds us that while we may plan our way, it is the Lord who directs our steps. That means our vision is not the final word — His is. And that’s actually good news. Because God sees what we cannot see. He knows the timing, the outcomes, and the bigger picture of our lives.
Jesus tells us in Matthew 6:33 to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness. This is where our focus must stay. Not on success. Not on comfort. Not even on our own dreams. Our focus must stay centered on God. When we put Him first, everything else finds its proper place. Our desires begin to shift. Our motives begin to change. Our hearts begin to align with His heart.
Psalm 37:4 says that when we delight ourselves in the Lord, He gives us the desires of our heart. This doesn’t mean He simply hands us everything we want. It means that as we grow closer to Him, He actually reshapes what we want. The dreams we once chased for our own glory start turning into dreams that bring Him glory. The plans we once made out of fear or pressure start becoming plans built on faith and obedience.
God’s Plan
God’s plan is what truly matters. Jeremiah 29:11 reminds us that His plans are for our good — full of hope and a future. Even when life doesn’t go the way we expected, we can trust that He is still working. Closed doors, delays, and redirections are not punishments. Often, they are protection and preparation.
This is why we must stay spiritually focused. Romans 12:2 tells us not to conform to the patterns of this world, but to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. The world tells us to chase our dreams at any cost. God tells us to surrender our dreams to Him and trust His will. There is peace in that surrender. There is freedom in letting God lead.
So yes — dream. Plan. Hope. Work hard. But hold it all with open hands. Keep your heart fixed on God and the kingdom of heaven. When your focus stays on Him, something powerful happens. Your dreams begin to align with His purpose. Your plans begin to reflect His wisdom. Your wants begin to match His will.
And in that alignment, you will find a deeper fulfillment than anything you could have created on your own.
Prayer
Lord, thank You for giving me dreams, vision, and desire. Help me to never place my plans above Your will. Teach me to trust You when things change and when the path looks different than I expected. Keep my heart focused on Your kingdom and shape my desires so they reflect Your purpose for my life. Give me peace in surrender and courage to follow wherever You lead. In Jesus’ name, amen.
