Your Life Matters

Your Life Matters

Devotional:

I get it. Life is hard.

Sometimes it gets so heavy that you start thinking, I’ve got nothing left. Nobody loves me. Nobody cares. I have no friends. Nobody wants me around. So why should I keep living?

I have literally been there. I’ve wanted to die. I’ve wanted everything to stop. And I’m not here to preach at you today or throw some easy Christian answer at something that hurts this much.

I’m here to tell you this: your life matters.

It may feel like you have nobody right now, but feelings—even really powerful ones—do not always tell us the whole truth. Psalm 34:18 says that God is close to the brokenhearted and rescues those whose spirits are crushed. That means your lowest moment does not make God run away from you. Scripture tells us the opposite. God draws near.

And besides telling you that God cares about you, I want to say something human too: people care about you. Maybe you can’t see them right now. Maybe relationships have fallen apart. Maybe the person you thought would stay left. Maybe your friends feel miles away even when they’re standing right beside you.

But this moment is not the entire story of your life.

Please Don’t Fight Alone

If you are thinking about ending your life, please reach out to somebody right now. Tell a friend. Tell a family member. Talk to a pastor. Call a counselor. Go to an emergency room if you need to. In the United States, you can call or text 988 to reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.

Asking for help is not a lack of faith. Sometimes God’s help comes through another person answering the phone, sitting beside you, taking you somewhere safe, or helping you make it through the next hour.

Isaiah 41:10 tells us not to be afraid because God is with us and promises strength and help. That does not mean believers never become depressed, overwhelmed, or suicidal. It means darkness does not get the final word, and you do not have to carry all of this by yourself.

Your life has value because you were created by God. Psalm 139 tells us that God formed us and that we are wonderfully made. Your worth is not determined by how many friends text you, who walked away, what you lost, what mistakes you made, or whether you can see a way forward today.

Your pain is real. But your pain is not your identity.

Give Jesus What You Have Left

Maybe you are at rock bottom.

Yes, please get help.

And while you’re reaching for that help, maybe it’s also time to reach toward Jesus.

You do not need the perfect prayer. You don’t have to clean yourself up first. You don’t need enough strength to suddenly become a different person.

Jesus said in Matthew 11:28, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.” That invitation is for tired people. Broken people. People who are barely holding on.

Jesus changed my life when I was ready to give up. That doesn’t mean every problem disappeared overnight. Following Jesus isn’t a promise that life suddenly becomes painless. But Jesus gave me a reason to keep going when I couldn’t see one for myself.

And Jesus can meet you there too.

Romans 8:38–39 reminds us that absolutely nothing can separate us from God’s love. Not depression. Not loneliness. Not your past. Not your worst night. Not even the thoughts you’re scared to admit out loud.

So if all you have left is enough strength to whisper, Jesus, help me, then start there.

But don’t stop there.

Tell someone what is happening.

Let somebody into the darkness with you.

Make the call.

Send the text.

Walk into the emergency room.

Pray while you’re doing it.

You do not need to figure out your entire future today. You just need to stay for today.

Your life is important. You are important. You are deeply loved by God. And this chapter does not have to be the last one.

Prayer:

Jesus, I don’t know what to do anymore. I’m tired, hurting, and I need help.

Please meet me right where I am. Give me enough strength to take the next step and enough courage to tell someone what I’m really going through. Put safe people around me who will listen, stay, and help me get through this.

When my mind tells me that I don’t matter, remind me of what Your Word says. When I can’t see a future, help me hold on one moment at a time.

Jesus, please carry what I cannot carry right now.

In Jesus’ name, amen.
