Maybe this is for someone today. Or maybe it’s just for me.
Being a Christian isn’t always peaceful fields, flowers, laughter, and everything going right. There is peace. There is joy. There is beauty. But sometimes we have to hold onto those things while everything around us feels like a storm.
Jesus never promised following God would be easy. In John 16:33, Jesus told us plainly that here on earth we would have trials and sorrows. But Jesus didn’t stop there. Jesus also reminded us to take heart because God has already overcome the world.
That matters.
We are in a spiritual battle. Ephesians 6:10–18 tells us to put on the full armor of God because our struggle is bigger than what we can see with our eyes. Truth matters. Faith matters. Salvation matters. God’s Word matters. Prayer matters.
The enemy is real, and 1 Peter 5:8–9 warns us to stay alert because the devil is looking for someone to devour. Scripture doesn’t say every hard day means Satan personally attacked us, and it doesn’t promise that every step closer to God automatically brings a stronger attack. But spiritual opposition is real, temptation is real, discouragement is real, and we cannot afford to walk through life spiritually asleep.
The Enemy Has Experience—But God Has Authority
Think about it like a job.
I was a truck driver for more than 20 years. I would say I got pretty good at it. I knew what I was doing. But even after all those years, I was still learning right up until the day I quit.
The enemy has been deceiving people since the Garden.
That doesn’t mean we should be terrified of Satan. It means we shouldn’t underestimate deception either. The enemy has been lying for a long time. He knows how to use fear, temptation, shame, distraction, pride, anger, discouragement, and whatever else might pull our attention away from God.
But here is the part we cannot forget:
The enemy is not equal to God.
Not even close.
God has already won the ultimate victory through Jesus Christ. Romans 8:37 reminds us that overwhelming victory is ours through Christ. The outcome is not uncertain.
The war has already been decided.
But that doesn’t mean we won’t face battles along the way.
That’s why we have to keep surrendering ourselves to God. Keep putting on the armor. Keep praying. Keep opening the Bible when we don’t feel like it. Keep choosing obedience when temptation looks easier.
Keep going.
Look How Far God Has Brought You
I know sometimes you want to quit.
I know sometimes you want to turn around and run the other direction.
I know it gets hard.
But stop for a second and look at how far God has already brought you.
For me, it has been about six years since I came back to Jesus. Every once in a while I have what I call a “V8 moment”—that slap-yourself-on-the-forehead moment where suddenly I realize:
Wow. Look what God has done.
Look at how God has changed me.
Look at what God has removed.
Look at what God has taught me.
Look at the things that used to control me that don’t control me anymore.
I’m nowhere near finished. But I’m also not the person I used to be.
Philippians 1:6 reminds us that God began a good work in us and will continue that work until it is finished.
So take an honest look back over your life since you accepted Jesus.
How has God changed you?
Maybe you pray differently. Maybe you forgive quicker. Maybe something you once thought was normal now bothers your conscience. Maybe you care about people differently. Maybe you recognize sin faster. Maybe you trust God a little more than you used to.
Growth isn’t always loud.
Sometimes you don’t notice it until you look back.
Keep Moving Forward
Maybe you think you should be farther along by now.
I understand that feeling.
But don’t let where you think you should be make you forget what God is doing where you are.
God can meet you exactly where you are today—but God also loves you too much to leave you there.
There is still growth ahead.
There is still work God wants to do in you.
There are still things to surrender.
There are still people you may be called to help.
Galatians 6:9 tells us not to get tired of doing what is good because at the right time we will reap a harvest if we don’t give up.
So keep going.
Keep going through the storm.
Keep going when you’re tired.
Keep going when the enemy whispers that none of this is worth it.
Keep going when you stumble.
And when you fall, don’t stay there. Turn back to God, receive grace, get back up, and keep moving.
Hebrews 12:1–2 tells us to run with endurance the race God has set before us while keeping our eyes on Jesus.
Not our failures.
Not the enemy.
Not everybody else’s progress.
Jesus.
There Really Is Peace
Please don’t misunderstand me.
There absolutely is peace, joy, and happiness in following Jesus.
I have a peace in my heart that I cannot completely explain. I have a happiness and a drive to help people that I never had before. God has changed what matters to me.
But peace doesn’t mean the absence of battles.
Sometimes peace is knowing who is with you in the battle.
Until we make it home to Heaven, we will face temptation, suffering, disappointment, spiritual opposition, and difficult days.
So stay alert.
Stay close to God.
Put on the armor.
Remember how far God has already brought you.
And whatever happens today—
KEEP GOING.
God isn’t finished with you yet.
Prayer:
God, some days I get tired. Sometimes I get discouraged, distracted, or tempted to give up. Help me remember how far You have already brought me. Help me put on Your armor every day and recognize the lies trying to pull me away from You. Give me strength when I feel weak, peace when life feels chaotic, and endurance when the road gets hard. Keep changing me, keep teaching me, and help me keep my eyes on Jesus instead of my circumstances. I surrender today to You. Help me keep going.
