Devotional
If you’re being honest, you’re tired.
Not just physically—but deep down in your soul. The kind of tired sleep doesn’t fix. The kind that comes from carrying too much for too long.
And then Jesus Christ speaks in Matthew 11:28–30 and says something that almost feels too good to be true: “Come to me… and I will give you rest.”
Notice what He doesn’t say.
He doesn’t say “fix yourself first.”
He doesn’t say “get stronger.”
He doesn’t say “figure it out.”
He just says—come.
That hits different.
Because most of us are used to earning everything. Even in our faith, we can slip into thinking we have to perform our way into peace. But Jesus flips that completely. He invites you to bring your weariness, your stress, your anxiety, your pressure—all of it—and lay it on Him.
1 Peter 5:7 says to cast all your cares on Him because He cares for you. Not tolerates you. Not barely puts up with you. He cares.
Then Jesus says something that can feel confusing at first: “Take my yoke upon you.”
A yoke was a wooden beam used to link two oxen together so they could carry a load. So how is that “rest”?
Because you’re not carrying it alone anymore.
When you take on Jesus’ yoke, you’re walking with Him. He carries the weight. He sets the pace. He leads. And suddenly what felt crushing becomes manageable—not because life got easier, but because you’re not doing it in your own strength anymore.
Isaiah 40:29–31 says He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. That’s the exchange happening here. You bring your exhaustion—He gives you His strength.
And don’t miss this: He describes Himself as gentle and humble in heart.
He’s not harsh with you.
He’s not disappointed in you for being tired.
He’s not rushing you.
Psalm 23 says He leads us beside quiet waters and restores our soul. That’s who He is. A Shepherd who knows when His sheep need rest.
So if your soul feels heavy right now, this is your reminder:
You don’t have to carry everything.
You were never meant to.
Come to Him. Not polished. Not perfect. Just honest.
That’s where real rest begins.
Prayer
Jesus,
I’m tired. You see everything I’ve been carrying, even the things I don’t say out loud. Right now, I choose to come to You just as I am. Teach me how to let go of the weight I was never meant to hold. Help me to trust You enough to walk with You and not run ahead or fall behind. Remind my heart that You are gentle, that You care, and that real rest is found in You.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
