Devotional:
Not every day is fire and passion.
Some days, if we’re being honest, just feel… slow. Heavy. Like everything in you would rather stay in bed than get up and move. And a lot of times, we think that if we’re truly following Christ, every day should feel full of energy, purpose, and drive.
But we forget something simple—
We’re still human.
Even in the Bible, you see moments of weakness. In Matthew 26:41, Jesus tells His disciples to stay awake and pray—but they kept falling asleep. Their spirit was willing, but their flesh was weak. That wasn’t new then, and it’s not new now.
I don’t know about you, but when the weather turns gloomy, it hits different. Motivation drops. The desire to move just isn’t there. This whole week might feel like trying to start an old diesel engine in the dead of winter—slow, stubborn, and honestly frustrating at times.
But here’s the thing… once it gets going, it runs.
That’s how it’s been for me too. No motivation at first. Just showing up. Still doing the devotionals. Still praying. Still opening the Bible. Still getting out to the shop and putting in the work. Not because I felt like it—but because I knew I needed to.
And that matters more than feelings ever will.
Galatians 6:9 reminds us not to grow weary in doing good, because in time we will reap a harvest if we don’t give up. It doesn’t say “if you feel motivated.” It says don’t quit.
Sometimes obedience looks like passion.
Other times, it just looks like showing up.
And both matter.
God isn’t expecting you to be on fire every single day. In fact, 2 Corinthians 12:9 reminds us that His strength is made perfect in our weakness. That means your slow days, your tired days, your “I don’t feel like it” days—those aren’t failures. Those are opportunities for Him to meet you right where you are.
There’s also a peace in remembering Psalm 46:10—“Be still, and know that I am God.” Not every moment has to be movement. Not every day has to be high energy. Sometimes being still is part of walking with Him too.
Now don’t get it twisted—this isn’t about checking out or neglecting your responsibilities. You still show up. You still pray. You still spend time with God, even if it’s just talking to Him about your day. That’s relationship.
That’s faithfulness.
Colossians 3:23 says whatever you do, do it wholeheartedly, as working for the Lord. And sometimes “wholeheartedly” doesn’t look loud—it looks steady. Quiet. Consistent.
So yeah… some mornings you’re going to want to lay around and be lazy. And sometimes, you might actually need a day to rest—and that’s okay too. God understands that better than we do.
But the goal is this: don’t disappear.
Even on the slow days…
Even on the hard weeks…
Even when the engine takes a while to turn over…
Just show up.
Because once you get going—you’ll run strong.
Prayer:
Lord,
Thank You for meeting me in every kind of day—not just the strong ones, but the slow and tired ones too. Help me to stay consistent, even when I don’t feel motivated. Give me the strength to simply show up, to spend time with You, and to keep moving forward in faith. Remind me that I don’t have to be perfect or full of energy—I just have to be willing. Teach me when to work and when to rest, and help me trust that You are with me in both.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
