Finding Peace While Waiting
Verses Used:
Genesis 2:18
Psalm 37:4-5
Matthew 6:33
Ecclesiastes 3:11
Devotional:
Loneliness is a real struggle in my life. I'm single, and if I'm being honest, I miss having someone to share life with. I miss the conversations, the companionship, and simply having someone by my side.
The other day I read something that really made me stop and think. Maybe God wants me to continue building my relationship with God before building a relationship with someone else. That really stuck with me because a relationship built on God is far stronger than one built only on emotions or attraction.
I try every day to grow closer to God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. But if I'm honest, that doesn't magically remove the desire to have a wife someday. Does that make me wrong? Absolutely not. It makes me human.
God understands that desire because God created us for relationship. In Genesis 2:18, we see that it wasn't good for man to be alone. God designed marriage and placed the desire for companionship in many of our hearts. Wanting a spouse isn't sinful. The key is making sure that desire never becomes greater than our desire for God.
Devotional:
If you're struggling with loneliness too, I want you to know you're not alone. God sees your heart. God knows every tear, every prayer, and every quiet moment when you wish someone was there beside you.
One lesson I've learned through my own life is that God must always come first. Matthew 6:33 reminds us to seek God's Kingdom above everything else. When God is our foundation, everything else is built on something that can actually last.
For many years I believed there was only one soulmate for each person. Life has taught me differently. I was married for sixteen years, and later I was in another relationship for five years. During both seasons, I believed those relationships could last forever. They didn't.
Looking back, I don't blame the other person. Relationships are complex, and both people have responsibilities. More importantly, I recognize that neither relationship had God firmly established as the center of our foundation. A healthy relationship isn't simply about a man and a woman. It's about God, the man, and the woman walking together. Without that foundation, it's much easier for things to fall apart.
I've also learned to be careful about assuming I know exactly what God has planned. Sometimes we sense hope, sometimes we pray with confidence, but ultimately only God knows the future. That's why Psalm 37:4-5 encourages us to delight ourselves in the Lord and trust God with our lives instead of leaning on our own understanding.
So wherever you are today—whether you're 20, 40, or 80—don't lose hope. Keep growing closer to God. Keep becoming the person God is shaping you to be. Trust God's timing even when it feels slower than you'd like. Ecclesiastes 3:11 reminds us that God makes everything beautiful in its proper time.
Focus more on God than on your wants or needs. That doesn't mean your desires disappear, but it does mean they no longer control your peace. When the time is right, God is fully capable of bringing the right people into your life exactly when they belong there.
Until then, keep walking with God one day at a time.
Have an amazing day, my friends!
God bless you.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for understanding every longing in our hearts. Thank You that You see our loneliness and never leave us to face it alone. Help us to seek You first in every season of life. Teach us to trust Your timing, even when waiting is difficult. Continue shaping our hearts so that every relationship we have is built on You as the foundation. Fill us with Your peace while we wait and remind us every day that Your plans are always better than our own. In Jesus' name, Amen.
