God Never Left You

Verses Used:

  • Luke 15:20

  • Romans 8:38-39

  • 1 John 1:9

  • Matthew 12:31-32

Devotional:

Have you ever felt like you've gone too far? Like you've made too many mistakes for God to ever want you back?

While I was writing another devotional today, this message came to my heart, and I felt the Holy Spirit saying someone needed to hear it.

God hasn't left you.

We all have a past. Every single one of us. Some stories look different than others, but we've all sinned. We've all made decisions we wish we could take back. Maybe today you're carrying guilt, shame, or regret that's been weighing you down for years.

I know I've felt that way before. There were times in my life when I honestly believed God would never take me back. I thought I'd messed up too much. I wondered if God still loved me.

The truth?

God never stopped loving me.

The whole time I was running away, God was waiting for me to come home.

Devotional:

One of my favorite pictures of God's love is found in Luke 15. Before the prodigal son could even make it home, his father saw him from a distance, ran to him, embraced him, and welcomed him back with open arms. That's the heart of our Heavenly Father.

If you've been running from God, stop running.

Talk to God.

God is listening.

1 John 1:9 tells us that if we confess our sins, God is faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. That's a promiseβ€”not a possibility.

I also want to address something that many people quietly worry about: the unforgivable sin.

Jesus spoke about blasphemy against the Holy Spirit in Matthew 12:31-32. This isn't someone who made mistakes, drifted away, or had seasons of doubt. It's a continual, hardened rejection of the Holy Spirit's work and the refusal to repent. If you're worried that you've committed this sin, that's actually a strong sign that your heart is still responding to God. A heart that desires forgiveness hasn't become hardened beyond repentance.

So if today you feel like you're a million miles away from God, remember this:

Feelings don't change the truth.

Romans 8:38-39 reminds us that nothing can separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

God hasn't moved.

God hasn't forgotten you.

God hasn't stopped loving you.

If there's distance between you and God, take one step toward God today. You'll discover what was true all along.

God was there...waiting with open arms.

I love you all!

God bless.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for never giving up on us and never stopping Your love for us. Thank You that no matter how far we've wandered, Your arms are always open when we turn back to You. Help us lay down our guilt, shame, and fear, knowing that Your forgiveness is greater than our failures. Draw us closer to You today, and remind us that we are never beyond Your grace when we come to You with a repentant heart. In Jesus' name,

Amen.
