Daily Devotional: The Way in the Wilderness

📖 Daily Devotional: The Way in the Wilderness

Scripture:

“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”

Isaiah 43:18-19 (NIV)

The Thought:

We often spend our lives looking over our shoulders. We look at the mistakes we’ve made, the opportunities we’ve missed, or the seasons of life that felt “warmer” than the one we are in right now. We can become so focused on what is behind us that we fail to see the Savior standing right in front of us.

When God tells us to “forget the former things,” He isn’t telling us our history doesn’t matter; He’s telling us that our history doesn’t define our future—He does. You might feel like you are in a “wilderness” today. Maybe life feels quiet, dry, or even a bit cold. But notice the promise in the verse: God doesn’t wait for the wilderness to disappear before He starts working. He makes a way in the wilderness. He brings streams into the wasteland.

Jesus is the Way. He is the Living Water. If you feel stuck today, look for the “new thing” He is doing in your heart. He is refining you, restoring you, and preparing you for what is next. You don’t need a map if you are following the Master. Trust that even in the quietest moments, He is making all things new.

The Prayer:

Lord Jesus, help us to take our eyes off the past and fix them firmly on You. We thank You that You are the Way-Maker and the Restorer of our souls. Even when we can’t see the path ahead, we trust that You are leading us. Refresh our hearts today with Your Living Water. Amen.
