📖 Daily Devotional — Seek First
Verses:
’31. So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’
32. For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.
33. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
34. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.’
Matthew 6:31-34 NIV
Reflection:
Good morning brothers and sisters, friends and family!
Verse 33 is my main focus today, but it needs a little context. One thing we must remember about the Bible is that while a single verse can be powerful, it’s often the surrounding verses that help us fully understand the message. In this case, however, verse 33 truly says it all:
“But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness…”
This is the answer to almost every question we ask.
What should I do?
Seek God.
Seek Jesus.
Seek the Kingdom of Heaven.
Jesus tells us not to worry about possessions, wants, or needs. When we seek God first, God provides. Not always instantly like a vending machine — though sometimes God does surprise us — but often through patience, growth, and trust over time. It may take months or even years, but God is faithful.
In the waiting, we are called to be grateful for what we have right now. This world is full of blessings if we slow down and open our eyes to see them. No matter our circumstances — whether homeless or housed, sick or healthy, rich or poor — blessings are all around us.
Seek first the Kingdom.
Remember the order of priorities God calls us to live by:
1️⃣ God
2️⃣ Spouse
3️⃣ Yourself
4️⃣ Children
5️⃣ Family
6️⃣ Friends
7️⃣ Work
When God is first, everything else finds its proper place.
I could go on and on, but I’ll stop here today — otherwise this devotional might turn into a sermon. 😉
🙏 Prayer
Father God, we come to You first today, and we choose to come to You first always. Your Kingdom come, Your will be done — not ours. We trust You as our provider, knowing You give more than we need. Help us see the blessings You have already placed around us, so we may walk in gratitude and faith. Thank You, God, Jesus, and Holy Spirit, for everything seen and unseen.
In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
