Devotional

God is close to the brokenhearted… not distant, not distracted—close (Psalm 34:18).

Sometimes it doesn’t feel that way. When your heart is heavy, when things didn’t turn out how you prayed, when people let you down or life just hits harder than expected—it can feel like God is silent or far away. But feelings don’t rewrite truth. God didn’t say He’s close to the perfect or the strong—He said He’s close to the brokenhearted.

That means your pain doesn’t push Him away… it actually draws Him near.

Jesus even said, “Blessed are those who mourn” (Matthew 5:4). That sounds backwards until you realize what comes next—they will be comforted. Not ignored. Not rushed. Comforted. God doesn’t shame you for feeling pain; He meets you in it.

The world often tells you to hide your brokenness, fix it quickly, or pretend you’re okay. But God does the opposite. He leans in. Isaiah 61:1 reminds us that He came to bind up the brokenhearted—not to avoid them. He is not intimidated by your emotions, your questions, or your tears.

And here’s something powerful—your pain isn’t wasted. 2 Corinthians 1:3–4 shows us that the comfort God gives you becomes something you can give to others. What hurt you doesn’t have to define you, but it can shape how you love people. It can become a testimony of how God carried you through something you thought would break you.

If your heart feels shattered right now, you’re not disqualified—you’re actually in a place where God promises His presence in a deeper way.

He is near, He sees you, He understands, and He’s not leaving.

Sometimes healing doesn’t happen overnight, but His presence is immediate. Stay close to Him, even when it’s hard. Especially when it’s hard.

Because the same God who is close to the brokenhearted… is also the One who gently puts hearts back together.

Prayer

Jesus,
You see every part of my heart—even the pieces I try to hide. Thank You for not turning away from my brokenness, but drawing near to me in it. When I feel overwhelmed, remind me that You are close. Help me to trust You even when I don’t understand what I’m going through. Heal what hurts, restore what’s been lost, and use my story for Your glory.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen.
