Devotional
Gratitude is something I talk about a lot on here. And honestly, that’s because it’s extremely important.
It’s easy to fall into the mindset of “I don’t have this” or “I wish I had that.” Maybe your phone is slow and outdated. Maybe your car is old and beat up. Maybe you wish you had more money, a better house, or different circumstances.
But this is where we need a mindset shift.
Your phone might be slow… but there are people who wish they had a phone at all.
Your car might be old… but there are people praying for any vehicle to get them to work.
Your situation may not be perfect, but it could always be worse.
Scripture reminds us in 1 Thessalonians 5:18 to give thanks in all circumstances. Not just when things are easy. Not just when life feels good. But in all circumstances.
That kind of gratitude changes your heart.
I try, at minimum once a day—usually way more—to simply stop and say:
“Thank you, God.”
Thank you for what I do have.
Because the truth is, we all have moments where we think, “Man, I wish I could do this,” or “I wish I had that.” That’s human. But when those thoughts come, I try to remember something important:
I could be worse off than I am right now.
And when you really think about it, everything good we have comes from God. James 1:17 reminds us that every good and perfect gift comes from above. The blessings in your life—big or small—are evidence of God’s goodness.
God is a loving and giving God. He does want good things for His children. But He also wants our hearts to be right. Philippians 4:11–12 shows us that Paul learned how to be content whether he had plenty or little. That kind of contentment doesn’t come from circumstances—it comes from trusting God.
Sometimes we want more before we’ve learned to appreciate what we already have.
And gratitude matters because Jesus even teaches in Luke 16:10 that being faithful with little matters to God. When we show appreciation and stewardship with what we have, it shapes our character.
Gratitude changes how we see life.
Instead of focusing on what’s missing, we begin noticing what’s already been given.
Instead of complaining, we start recognizing blessings.
Instead of feeling empty, we begin realizing how much God has already provided.
So today, take a moment.
Just pause.
And say three simple words:
Thank you, God.
Thank Him for your breath.
Thank Him for the roof over your head.
Thank Him for the things you often overlook.
Because when you live with gratitude, you begin to see just how faithful God really is.
Love you all. God bless.
Prayer
Father,
Thank You for everything You have given us, even the things we sometimes overlook. Forgive us for the moments we focus more on what we lack than what we already have. Help us develop hearts of gratitude and contentment.
Teach us to see the blessings You place in our lives every single day. Remind us that every good thing comes from You. Help us trust that You know what we need and that You are always providing in ways we may not even realize.
Let gratitude shape our hearts and our attitudes so we reflect Your goodness to others.
Thank You for loving us, providing for us, and walking with us every day.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
