Devotional
Hey friends! Today I want to talk about hearing God.
God is always speaking—there’s no question about that. The real issue isn’t whether He’s talking… it’s whether we’re tuned in enough to hear Him. Life gets loud. The world is constantly competing for our attention, and if we’re being honest, sometimes it wins.
I struggle with this too.
I know God is speaking, but sometimes I can’t hear Him clearly—like a bad phone connection on my end, not His 😂. And that’s the thing… the problem isn’t God’s voice. It’s our focus.
Jesus says in John 10:27 that His sheep hear His voice. That means if you belong to Him, you can hear Him. But just like anything else, it takes training, attention, and intention.
God speaks in more ways than we expect. He’ll use people, preachers, Scripture, and yes—even things like a show or a song—to grab your attention and confirm what He’s already been trying to say to your heart.
That actually happened to me.
Yesterday I read through 1 Timothy chapters 3 and 4. Then today, I felt pulled to go back and read chapter 4 again. As I was reading, I got to verse 12… and my mind drifted. I wasn’t locked in. (Distraction? Spiritual warfare? Maybe both.)
But then I felt that nudge:
“Hey… read that again.”
So I went back.
And BOOM—verses 14 through 16 hit me hard.
It was clear as day:
I’ve been neglecting my gift.
I haven’t been showing up the way I know I’m called to. I haven’t been posting what God’s actually put on my heart. And in that moment, I knew—it wasn’t just a thought. It was God getting my attention.
“Alright God… I hear You.”
And maybe you’ve had moments like that too. Where something just clicks deep in your spirit and you know—it’s Him.
That’s how God often speaks. Not always loud. Not always dramatic. But clear, personal, and undeniable when your heart is open.
Now here’s something important…
There are seasons where God feels quiet.
But that doesn’t mean He’s gone.
Sometimes you’re in a test.
And just like a teacher during a test—He’s still there, but He’s not giving new instructions. In those moments, go back to the last thing He told you to do and stay faithful in it.
Keep praying.
Keep focusing.
Keep obeying.
God isn’t trying to confuse you—He’s trying to grow you.
And no, we’re not going to be perfect. Not here. Sanctification is a process that won’t be complete until we’re with Him in Heaven. But He’s not asking for perfection—He’s asking for obedience.
Do the best you can with what He’s given you.
That’s what He’s asking.
God loves you.
I love you.
Have an amazing day!
Prayer
God, thank You for always speaking, even when I struggle to hear You. Help me quiet the noise in my life and tune my heart to Your voice. Give me discernment to recognize when it’s You, and the courage to respond in obedience. If I’ve been neglecting what You’ve called me to do, show me clearly and help me step back into it. Even in the quiet seasons, help me stay faithful to what You’ve already told me. I trust that You are guiding me, growing me, and loving me through it all.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
