Devotional

The Bible never hides the reality of false teachers. Jesus Himself warned us in Matthew 7:15–20 that wolves can come dressed like sheep. They may sound good. They may be popular. They may even use the name of God often. But Jesus said we would know them by their fruit.

That matters today more than ever.

Not everyone who stands behind a pulpit speaks truth. Not everyone with a large following is preaching the Gospel faithfully. Some twist Scripture to fit culture. Some preach comfort without repentance. Some build platforms instead of pointing people to Christ. And sadly, some truly are in it for money, fame, or power instead of the truth of God.

2 Peter 2:1 warns that false teachers would secretly bring destructive teachings among believers. Paul also said in 2 Timothy 4:3–4 that a time would come when people would gather teachers who tell them what they want to hear instead of what they need to hear. We are living in those days now.

That is why believers must stay grounded in God’s Word for themselves.

You cannot rely only on someone else to tell you what the Bible says. Read it. Study it. Pray over it. Compare every teaching to Scripture. 1 John 4:1 says to test the spirits because many false prophets have gone out into the world. God never told us to blindly follow personalities. He told us to follow Christ.

Watch the fruit.

Does the teaching produce holiness or compromise? Does it glorify Jesus or glorify the speaker? Does it call people to repentance and obedience to God’s Word, or does it only promise blessings, success, and self-centered living? Galatians 1:8 gives a serious warning that even if someone appears spiritual, if they preach a different gospel, they are not to be followed.

Truth matters.

Grace matters.

Sound doctrine matters.

This does not mean we become hateful, prideful, or constantly looking to attack people. But it does mean we stay spiritually alert. Discernment is not judgmentalism when it is rooted in Scripture and love for truth.

The enemy does not always attack from the outside. Sometimes deception enters quietly. That is why we must stay close to Jesus, stay in prayer, and stay in the Word daily.

A real shepherd points people to Christ, not to themselves.

And real truth will always align with God’s Word.

Prayer

Lord, give me wisdom and discernment in a world full of confusion and deception. Help me stay rooted in Your Word and sensitive to Your truth. Protect my heart from false teaching and anything that pulls me away from Jesus. Teach me to recognize good fruit and to walk in both truth and grace. Keep me humble, faithful, and grounded in Scripture. In Jesus’ name,

Amen.
