Devotional
There is a truth in Scripture that many people avoid talking about.
But the Bible never avoids it.
The end is coming.
Not as a scare tactic.
Not as a movie script.
But as a promise from God Himself.
In Revelation 22:12, Jesus says, “Behold, I am coming soon.” Those are not empty words. They are a reminder that history is moving toward a very real moment when Christ will return.
The world often acts like life will go on forever. People build plans, chase success, and live as if tomorrow is guaranteed. But Scripture reminds us that time on this earth is temporary.
2 Peter 3:10 tells us the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. Unexpected. Sudden. A moment when everything changes.
That’s why Jesus warned in Matthew 24:42–44 to stay awake and be ready, because we do not know the hour He will return.
But being ready isn’t about fear.
It’s about relationship.
Jesus didn’t tell us these things to make us panic. He told us so we would live with purpose. Every day becomes more meaningful when we remember that this world is not our final home.
In John 14:3, Jesus promises that He is preparing a place for those who belong to Him, and that He will come back to take us to be with Him.
That’s the hope believers hold onto.
So being ready means living a life that reflects Him. It means turning away from sin and walking in obedience. It means loving people, forgiving quickly, and keeping our hearts focused on God instead of the distractions of the world.
Paul reminds believers in 1 Thessalonians 5:2–6 that while the day of the Lord will surprise many, it should not surprise those who are walking in the light.
Followers of Christ are called to stay spiritually awake.
To live alert.
To live faithfully.
Because one day the skies will split open, and the King we have believed in will stand before us.
On that day, faith becomes sight.
And the question will not be how successful we were, how famous we were, or how comfortable we were.
The question will be simple:
Were we ready?
The good news is this—if your trust is in Jesus Christ, you don’t have to fear His return. His coming is not something to dread.
It’s something to look forward to.
A day when pain ends.
A day when sin is defeated forever.
A day when we finally stand face to face with the One who saved us.
So live ready.
Walk with Him today.
Because the end is not just coming.
Our King is coming.
Prayer
Lord,
Help me live with an eternal perspective. It’s easy to get distracted by the things of this world and forget that this life is temporary.
Remind my heart that You are coming again.
Give me the wisdom to live ready, the courage to turn away from sin, and the faith to follow You fully. Help me walk in the light so that when You return, I will not be ashamed but joyful to see You.
Teach me to use my time for what truly matters—loving You, loving people, and sharing the truth of Your salvation.
Prepare my heart for the day I stand before You.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
