You Don't Have to Be Perfect
Lately, I've noticed I talk about a lot of the same things. The reason is simple—I'm writing about what God is teaching me and what I'm living through right now.
I'm still learning. I'm still growing. I still worry that I'm making mistakes or not doing enough for God.
But over and over again, through sermons and reading His Word, God keeps reminding me of something I desperately need to hear.
I'll never be perfect.
Not on this side of heaven.
Romans 3:23 reminds us that we've all sinned and fall short of God's glorious standard. Every single one of us. Yet God never expected us to earn His love by becoming perfect. He sent Jesus because we never could.
Sometimes I look at my walk with Christ and think I should be farther along than I am. Maybe you've felt that way too.
But God keeps reminding me that He isn't waiting for me at some imaginary finish line.
He's with me right where I am.
That's where His grace meets us. That's where He teaches us. That's where He changes us little by little.
God Looks at the Heart
The older I get, the more I realize that my heart matters more than anything else.
Do I want God's will?
Do I hate my sin?
Do I repent when I fail?
That doesn't mean I never sin. Unfortunately, I still do. I don't want to, but I still fall short.
Repentance isn't pretending we're perfect. It's turning toward God every time we stumble and asking Him to keep changing us.
There is a difference between living with a repentant heart and treating God's grace like permission to sin. Scripture warns us not to take His grace for granted. A heart that plans to keep sinning without any desire to change is in dangerous territory. But a heart that grieves over sin, confesses it, and keeps running back to Jesus is exactly the kind of heart God restores.
1 John 1:9 tells us that if we confess our sins to Him, He is faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us from all wickedness. Psalm 51:17 says God will not reject a broken and repentant heart.
God isn't looking for flawless people.
He's looking for surrendered hearts.
He Hasn't Given Up on You
Maybe today you feel like you've failed too many times.
Maybe you're discouraged because you're still fighting the same battles.
Maybe you think God has grown tired of you.
He hasn't.
Hebrews 13:5 reminds us that He will never fail us or abandon us. Philippians 1:6 promises that the God who began a good work in you will continue His work until it is finally finished.
That means your story isn't over.
God is with you in your lowest valleys and your highest victories. He sees every struggle, every prayer, every tear, and every step of obedience that no one else notices.
Keep seeking Him.
Keep repenting.
Keep trusting Him.
He knows you're not perfect.
He never expected you to be.
He simply asks you to keep giving Him your heart.
And remember this today:
God is with you where you are, not just where you hope to be. He has not given up on you, and He never will.
Prayer
Father,
Thank You for loving me even though I'm far from perfect. Thank You for meeting me where I am instead of waiting for me to have everything together. Forgive me for the times I fall into sin, and continue changing my heart to look more like Yours. Help me never to take Your grace for granted, but to live with a heart that truly desires to follow You. Thank You for never leaving me, never giving up on me, and never stopping the work You're doing in my life. Keep drawing me closer to You every day.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
