Devotional

Giving is something God looks at very differently than people do.

In Matthew 6:1–4, Jesus teaches us not to practice our righteousness just to be seen by others. He specifically talks about giving and says when we give, we should not do it for attention or applause. He tells us to give in secret so that our Father, who sees in secret, will reward us.

That doesn’t mean giving should always be hidden in a way that nobody ever knows. It means our heart should never be chasing recognition.

At the same time, Matthew 5:16 tells us to let our light shine before others so they may see our good works and glorify our Father in heaven. This is not a contradiction—it is a heart check.

The difference is motive.

Are we giving so people will praise us? Or are we living in a way that points people to Jesus?

It is okay for people to know that you give, serve, and help. Sometimes that visibility opens doors for ministry. Sometimes it lets hurting people know they can come to you for help. Sometimes it encourages others to be generous too.

But the real test is this: do you give more in secret than you do in public?

That matters.

God is not impressed by public generosity if private obedience is missing. He sees what no one else sees. He knows when we help someone quietly, when we bless someone without posting it, when we meet a need without needing credit.

That kind of giving carries real weight in heaven.

Even with God’s Grace Studios, we give back and sometimes we may share it publicly—not for applause, but so people know they can come to us for help. We want people to know there is support, prayer, and help available.

But most of the giving should be the kind nobody knows about. The kind that stays between us and God.

That is where purity grows.

Galatians 6:9–10 reminds us not to grow weary in doing good. Keep helping. Keep giving. Keep serving. Even when nobody notices.

And Proverbs 11:25 says the generous will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.

God notices.

People may forget, but God never does.

So let your fruit be seen, but let your secret giving be greater. Let your public kindness be real, but let your private obedience be deeper.

Give in a way that honors God, not your image.

Because the greatest reward is not being seen by people.

It is being known by the Father.

Prayer

Lord, help me to give with the right heart. Keep me from seeking attention, praise, or recognition from people. Teach me to be generous in ways that honor You first. Let my life reflect Your goodness, and let my giving point people to You, not to me. Help me serve faithfully, both in public and in secret. Thank You for seeing every quiet act of love and every hidden sacrifice. Let my heart stay pure and my hands stay open. In Jesus’ name,

Amen.
