Key Verse
Isaiah 60:1 (NLT)
“Arise, Jerusalem! Let your light shine for all to see. For the glory of the LORD rises to shine on you.”
Chapter Overview
Isaiah 60 begins with two words that change the atmosphere:
Arise. Shine.
Why?
Because light has come.
God's glory is rising.
Isaiah describes darkness covering the earth...
But over God's people, the LORD rises.
Nations are drawn toward the light.
Kings come toward its brightness.
People who were scattered return.
Sons and daughters come home.
The nations bring their wealth.
Foreigners help rebuild.
Gates remain open.
The city that had been rejected becomes restored.
Violence disappears.
Destruction ends.
And then the imagery becomes even bigger.
The sun will no longer be their primary light.
The moon will not be needed in the same way.
Why?
Because:
The LORD Himself will be their everlasting light.
Mourning ends.
God's people possess the land.
And what begins small becomes mighty.
The chapter closes with God promising that when the right time comes...
He will make it happen.
Isaiah 60 is filled with:
Light.
Glory.
Restoration.
Return.
Justice.
Hope.
Kingdom.
And God's presence.
Yesterday Was Dark
Isaiah 59 was heavy.
Sin.
Lies.
Injustice.
Violence.
Truth falling in the streets.
People stumbling around like they couldn't see.
Then God stepped in.
A Redeemer was promised.
And immediately after that...
Isaiah 60:
Arise. Shine.
That transition matters.
The Darkness Was Real
God never pretended otherwise.
This is important because biblical hope isn't pretending everything is okay.
The Bible is incredibly honest about darkness.
Sin is real.
Suffering is real.
Grief is real.
Injustice is real.
Death is real.
Christian Hope Is Not Denial
We don't have to look at something terrible and say:
“It's fine!”
when it isn't.
Sometimes it is absolutely not fine.
Faith Doesn't Require Fake Smiling
😂
You can love Jesus...
And cry.
Love Jesus...
And grieve.
Love Jesus...
And admit you're exhausted.
Love Jesus...
And say:
“This hurts.”
Biblical Hope Looks Directly at Darkness
And then says:
Darkness does not get the final word.
That's different.
Isaiah Doesn't Say Darkness Isn't Coming
He says darkness covers the earth.
That's pretty direct.
But then:
The LORD rises over you.
Light Is Powerful Because Darkness Is Real
You don't need a flashlight at noon.
😂
Light matters most when you cannot see.
Maybe You're in a Dark Season
And we should be careful here.
Isaiah 60 was spoken in a specific prophetic context about Zion and God's restoration.
We shouldn't grab every line and turn it into a personal guarantee that:
“My difficult season ends this week.”
Scripture deserves better than that.
But the Hope Behind the Chapter Belongs to God's People
Darkness is temporary.
God's kingdom is not.
Your Current Chapter Is Not the Entire Book
That's worth remembering.
You may be grieving.
Waiting.
Healing.
Rebuilding.
Confused.
Tired.
But if you belong to Christ...
Your ultimate destination is not darkness.
Arise
That word is interesting.
God's people are told to get up.
Sometimes Grace Tells You to Rest
We just spent Isaiah 56 and 58 talking about that.
😂
And sometimes grace says:
Get up.
Both can be holy.
Wisdom Knows the Difference Between Resting and Staying Down
That's important.
There are seasons where you genuinely need rest.
And there are seasons where fear, disappointment, shame, or discouragement have convinced you to stay somewhere God is calling you to leave.
You Can Rest Without Quitting
And you can arise without pretending you're not tired.
Maybe “Arise” Looks Small
Not:
Build an empire today.
😂
Maybe:
Get out of bed.
Open the Bible.
Make the phone call.
Go to counseling.
Submit the application.
Return to church.
Take the walk.
Apologize.
Start again.
Getting Up Can Be an Act of Faith
Especially after failure.
Peter Had to Get Up
He denied Jesus.
Three times.
Imagine the shame.
But Jesus restored him.
Peter's failure did not become his final identity.
Grace Does Not Only Forgive You on the Ground
Sometimes grace helps you stand again.
Shame Says Stay Down
Grace says:
Jesus paid. Get up and follow Him.
But Notice Why They Shine
This is HUGE.
Isaiah doesn't say:
“Arise and shine because you finally discovered how amazing you are.”
😂
No.
They shine because:
God's glory rises upon them.
The Light Is Borrowed
That's important.
We are not the source.
The Moon Doesn't Brag About Being Bright
😂
It reflects.
That's us.
Christians Are Reflectors Before We Are Influencers
There's a line for today.
The goal isn't:
“Everybody look at me.”
The goal is:
“Look at Jesus.”
Jesus Calls His People the Light of the World
Matthew 5.
But John 8 says Jesus is the Light of the world.
Those truths belong together.
He Is the Source
We reflect Him.
If Our Light Makes Everybody Notice Us but Nobody Notice Jesus...
Something went wrong.
Christian Influence Should Point Beyond the Christian
That's important.
Maybe God gives you:
A business.
A platform.
A ministry.
A family.
A leadership role.
Creative gifts.
Resources.
Influence.
Use them.
But don't become confused about who the glory belongs to.
Don't Turn God's Light Into Your Spotlight
😂🔥
That one needs to stay.
Ministry Can Become a Spotlight
Business can.
Social media can.
Even testimony can.
We start with:
“Look what Jesus did.”
And slowly it becomes:
“Look what Jesus did... through ME.”
Then eventually:
“Look at me.”
Dangerous progression.
You Don't Have to Become Invisible
Humility isn't pretending you have no gifts.
If God made you good at something...
You can acknowledge it.
Humility Says the Gift Has a Giver
That's the difference.
Excellence Can Glorify God
Create well.
Lead well.
Build well.
Work hard.
Develop skill.
But Excellence Makes a Terrible Identity
Because eventually somebody will be better.
😂
Then what?
Still loved.
Still God's.
Nations Come to the Light
Isaiah's vision expands beyond Israel.
Nations are drawn toward what God is doing.
This is part of the larger biblical story we've seen throughout Isaiah.
God's salvation was never meant to remain hidden.
God Has Always Had the Nations in View
Remember Isaiah 49?
God's Servant would be a light to the Gentiles.
Salvation would reach the ends of the earth.
Then Jesus Comes
And the gospel goes outward.
Jerusalem.
Judea.
Samaria.
The ends of the earth.
Christianity Was Never Meant to Belong to One Ethnicity or Nation
The gospel is for the world.
Every tribe.
Every language.
Every people.
Every nation.
Jesus Does Not Belong to America
😂
America needs Jesus.
Jesus does not need America.
The Kingdom of God Is Bigger Than Every Earthly Nation
That's important.
Our citizenship, culture, and country can matter to us.
But Jesus receives ultimate allegiance.
The Church Should Look Like the Gospel Is for Everybody
Because it is.
Isaiah Says, “Look Around”
I love this moment.
People are coming home.
Sons.
Daughters.
People who were scattered.
Imagine the emotion.
Restoration Sometimes Looks Like Return
Things once separated...
coming back together.
But Be Careful With Personalizing This
Isaiah's prophecy is not a blank check promising:
Every estranged child comes home on our timeline.
Every marriage gets restored.
Every relationship reconciles.
Every prodigal returns before we die.
We can pray for those things.
We should.
But we should not promise what Scripture doesn't promise individually.
Biblical Hope Doesn't Need False Guarantees
God's actual promises are strong enough.
We Can Pray Boldly Without Pretending We Know the Outcome
“Father, bring them home.”
That's a beautiful prayer.
Then:
“Your will be done.”
That's trust.
Isaiah Describes Wealth Coming From Nations
And this is another place we need to slow down.
Because somebody somewhere has definitely turned Isaiah 60 into:
“Congratulations! God is about to make you rich!”
😂
Hold on.
This Is Not a Prosperity-Gospel Scratch-Off Ticket
Isaiah is describing Zion's restoration and the nations bringing their resources into God's kingdom purposes.
The center is:
God's glory.
Not personal luxury.
Wealth in Scripture Is a Responsibility
If God gives resources...
They belong under His lordship.
Money Is a Tool
It can:
Feed people.
Fund ministry.
Create jobs.
Support missions.
Care for family.
Help communities.
Build useful things.
Money Can Also Become a Master
Jesus warned us clearly.
You cannot serve both God and money.
Don't Confuse God's Blessing With a Bigger Bank Account
Some of the most faithful Christians in history have been poor.
Some wealthy people have been deeply wicked.
Material wealth alone tells you almost nothing about someone's standing with God.
God Can Bless Financially
Absolutely.
But He can also bless through:
Peace.
Wisdom.
Relationships.
Contentment.
Spiritual maturity.
Endurance.
Community.
Opportunity to serve.
Sometimes the Blessing Is Having Enough
That's something consumer culture hates.
😂
Enough.
Contentment Is Wealth the Market Cannot Sell You
That's powerful.
Isaiah Talks About Rebuilding
There it is again.
Yesterday God stepped in.
Isaiah 58 called God's people repairers.
Now Isaiah 60 describes rebuilding.
God Loves Restoration
Broken walls.
Broken cities.
Broken communities.
Broken people.
The Bible keeps moving toward restoration.
But Restoration Does Not Always Mean Returning to the Old Version
We talked about this.
Sometimes God rebuilds differently.
Stop Asking God to Recreate a Season He Already Finished
Ouch.
Sometimes we're praying:
“God, make it exactly like it used to be.”
Maybe He's building something new.
Nostalgia Can Become an Idol
We remember:
How church used to feel.
How the marriage used to feel.
How life used to be.
How the business used to run.
How healthy we used to feel.
And grief is legitimate.
But yesterday cannot become our god.
God Is Present Here Too
Even if here looks different.
Rebuilding Requires New Materials Sometimes
New habits.
New boundaries.
New relationships.
New wisdom.
New rhythms.
Don't Rebuild the Same Wall With the Same Cracks
😂
Learn something.
Restoration Should Include Wisdom
If dishonesty destroyed trust...
Rebuild with transparency.
If burnout destroyed health...
Rebuild with boundaries.
If debt created chaos...
Rebuild with discipline.
If pride damaged relationships...
Rebuild with humility.
Grace Doesn't Only Restore
Grace teaches.
Isaiah Says Former Enemies Participate in Restoration
That's fascinating.
God can use unexpected people.
Stop Deciding in Advance Who God Can Use
😂
He has a long biblical history of surprising people.
God Used Cyrus
We've already seen that in Isaiah.
A pagan king became part of God's purposes.
God Is Not Limited to Your Preferred Delivery Method
We pray:
“Lord, provide.”
Then He provides through somebody we don't like.
😂
“No, Lord. Different provider.”
No.
Receive with humility.
God Can Send Help From Unexpected Places
A stranger.
A counselor.
A coworker.
A church you didn't expect.
A business connection.
Someone younger than you.
Someone older.
Someone from another background.
Don't Let Pride Reject Provision
Isaiah Says the Gates Stay Open
The picture is abundance, access, safety, and the nations coming toward God's restored city.
But later Revelation picks up similar imagery.
That's important.
Isaiah 60 Looks Forward
This chapter isn't exhausted by one historical moment.
Its imagery reaches toward God's ultimate kingdom.
Revelation 21 Sounds Like Isaiah 60
Nations walking by light.
Kings bringing glory.
Gates remaining open.
No need for sun or moon in the same way...
Because God's glory illuminates the city.
The Bible Is Connecting the Dots for Us
Isaiah's restoration points beyond temporary rebuilding.
Toward final restoration.
The Story Ends With a City Full of Light
Think about that.
Genesis begins with:
“Let there be light.”
Revelation ends with God's people living in His light forever.
Darkness Is Temporary
Light Wins.
Not because light tries harder.
Because God wins.
Isaiah Says Violence Will Disappear
Imagine that.
No violence.
No destruction.
No devastation.
We Have Never Lived in a World Like That
Every generation knows violence.
War.
Abuse.
Crime.
Hatred.
We Can Work for Peace Now
And we should.
But our deepest hope isn't humanity finally becoming perfect through enough progress.
Jesus Will Make All Things New
That's Christian hope.
Human Progress Can Be Real
Medicine improves.
Technology improves.
Systems can improve.
Justice can improve.
Those are good things.
But technology cannot remove sin from the human heart.
Better Tools Don't Automatically Create Better Humans
Sometimes they just give sinful humans better tools.
😂
We Need Transformation
Ultimately...
We need Jesus.
Isaiah Says Salvation Will Surround Them
The imagery becomes beautiful.
Salvation like walls.
Praise like gates.
Imagine Living Somewhere Where Salvation Defines the Boundaries
No fear.
No destruction.
No enemy breaking through.
Jesus Is Building Something Sin Cannot Destroy
That's our hope.
Then the Sun and Moon Language Appears
This is where Isaiah 60 becomes breathtaking.
God Himself becomes their everlasting light.
Imagine Never Experiencing Darkness Again
Not merely nighttime.
Spiritual darkness.
Grief.
Fear.
Confusion.
Sin.
Death.
No More “God, Where Are You?”
Because His presence fills everything.
Revelation Picks This Up Directly
The New Jerusalem doesn't need sun or moon for light because God's glory illuminates it.
Isaiah Is Giving Us a Glimpse of Home
That's what this feels like.
Not merely:
“Life will get easier.”
Home.
Christians Are People Walking Toward Dawn
I love that.
The night may still be here.
But dawn is coming.
Dawn Changes How You Interpret Darkness
If you know morning is coming...
Night doesn't become pleasant.
But it becomes temporary.
Hope Does Not Make Pain Small
It Makes Pain Temporary
That's different.
Mourning Will End
Isaiah says the days of mourning will come to an end.
Not:
“Real Christians don't mourn.”
The Bible never teaches that.
Jesus Wept
Enough said.
Grief Is Not Weak Faith
Sometimes grief is love carrying an absence.
But Grief Will Not Last Forever
For those in Christ...
There is an expiration date on mourning.
We don't know the date.
But God does.
One Day You Will Cry Your Last Tear
Sit with that.
One day...
The last tear.
The last funeral.
The last goodbye.
The last diagnosis.
The last betrayal.
The last sleepless night.
The last moment of fear.
Then Light
Forever.
That Is Bigger Than “Your Best Life Now”
😂
Much bigger.
Christianity Gives Us an Eternal Horizon
If our entire theology of blessing has to happen before we die...
We will misunderstand huge portions of Scripture.
Some Promises Are Bigger Than This Life
That's not a consolation prize.
That's resurrection hope.
Isaiah Says the Smallest Will Become Mighty
Again, we should resist turning this into:
“Your small business will become a multinational corporation.”
😂
Maybe.
Maybe not.
That's not the point.
God Can Make Something Small Significant
A small church.
A quiet ministry.
One faithful family.
One act of obedience.
One conversation.
One seed.
Kingdom Significance Is Not Measured by Followers
Thank God.
😂
Heaven's Analytics Are Different
We measure:
Views.
Revenue.
Attendance.
Subscribers.
Likes.
Growth.
God sees:
Faithfulness.
Obedience.
Love.
Truth.
Motives.
Small Does Not Mean Unimportant
Jesus compared God's kingdom to a mustard seed.
Tiny beginnings can matter enormously.
Stop Despising the Small Thing God Gave You
Maybe it's not impressive yet.
Maybe it never becomes impressive by worldly standards.
Be faithful.
God Does Not Need Viral
😂
He needs obedient.
Then Comes the Final Line
And I LOVE this.
God basically says:
At the right time, I will make it happen.
God's Timing Is Part of God's Promise
We hate that part.
😂
We love:
“I will do it.”
We struggle with:
“At the right time.”
We Want God to Use Amazon Prime Timing
😂
“Lord, I prayed yesterday.”
God is not late because He didn't meet our preferred delivery window.
Waiting Does Not Mean Nothing Is Happening
Seeds grow underground.
Pregnancy develops unseen.
Foundations are built before houses rise.
Hidden Work Is Still Work
God may be doing something you cannot see yet.
But Don't Turn That Into a Guarantee About Your Specific Desired Outcome
Again...
We trust God's promises.
Not our assumptions.
Faith Says:
“God will keep every promise He actually made.”
That's enough.
God's Timing Is Perfect Because God Sees What We Cannot
We see:
Today.
He sees the whole story.
Character of God
God Is Light
Darkness cannot overcome Him.
God Is Glorious
Isaiah 60 is centered on His glory.
Not ours.
God Restores
He rebuilds.
Gathers.
Redeems.
God Welcomes the Nations
His salvation reaches beyond every human boundary.
God Is Just
Violence and destruction do not continue forever.
God Is Present
The greatest promise isn't gold.
Prosperity.
Success.
It is:
God Himself becomes their everlasting light.
That's the Blessing
Him.
See Jesus Here
Isaiah says:
Light has come.
Then Jesus comes into the world and declares:
He is the Light of the world.
Isaiah describes nations coming toward the light.
Then Jesus commissions His followers to carry the gospel to the nations.
Isaiah describes kings bringing wealth.
Matthew records wise men from the east bringing gifts to the child Jesus.
Isaiah describes God's everlasting light.
Revelation shows the Lamb illuminating the New Jerusalem.
Jesus Is Not a Side Note in Isaiah 60
He is where the light leads.
The Light Came Into the Darkness
Yesterday:
Isaiah 59.
Humanity stumbling in darkness.
A Redeemer promised.
Today:
Isaiah 60.
Arise. Shine. Your light has come.
See the progression?
The Redeemer Brings the Dawn
That's beautiful.
We Don't Shine by Trying Harder to Glow
😂
We shine by staying near Jesus.
You Cannot Reflect a Light You Refuse to Face
Stay close.
Scripture.
Prayer.
Worship.
Community.
Obedience.
The Goal Is Not “Become Impressive”
The goal is:
Reflect Christ.
The Lie vs. The Truth
The Lie
“The darkness I see right now is the final reality, and I need to create enough light in myself to escape it.”
The Truth
“Darkness is real, but it is temporary. Jesus is the Light, God's glory will ultimately overcome every darkness, and I am called to arise and reflect the light I receive from Him.”
Arise. Your Light Has Come.
Maybe you're tired.
Maybe Isaiah 59 felt more familiar than Isaiah 60.
Darkness.
Confusion.
Things not making sense.
Maybe you've been sitting in disappointment longer than you expected.
And then God says:
Arise.
Not because the darkness wasn't real.
It was.
Not because nothing happened.
It did.
Not because you're strong enough now.
You aren't the source.
Arise because:
The Light has come.
Jesus has entered the darkness.
Sin has been confronted.
The Redeemer has come.
Death has been defeated.
And although we still live in a world where darkness remains...
we know how the story ends.
Not with darkness.
Light.
Not with death.
Life.
Not with exile.
Home.
Not with mourning.
Joy.
Not with destruction.
Restoration.
Not with God's people asking where He is.
But with God Himself becoming their everlasting light.
So maybe today...
Arising doesn't mean doing something huge.
Maybe it means you stop letting yesterday's failure decide today's obedience.
Maybe you pray again.
Trust again.
Serve again.
Create again.
Love again.
Try again.
Not because you suddenly became the light.
Because Jesus is.
And you belong to Him.
So get up.
Face the Light.
Reflect what He gives you.
And when somebody notices...
Don't turn God's light into your spotlight.
Point them toward the Source.
Arise. Your Light Has Come.
What It Means Today
Isaiah 60 sounds victorious.
Arise.
Shine.
Your light has come.
But sometimes we read words like that while sitting in circumstances that feel nothing like victory.
Maybe you're exhausted.
Maybe something fell apart.
Maybe you've prayed for restoration and haven't seen it.
Maybe you're rebuilding something you never expected to lose.
Maybe you've been waiting so long that hope itself feels tiring.
So what does:
“Arise. Shine.”
actually look like there?
Sometimes Arising Is Not Dramatic
We love dramatic comeback stories.
Everything collapses.
Music starts playing.
😂
Three minutes later...
New business.
Restored family.
Six-pack abs.
Perfect prayer life.
Debt free.
Everybody claps.
Real life usually isn't edited that well.
Sometimes Arising Happens One Inch at a Time
You get up.
You shower.
You pray.
You eat something.
You answer the email.
You go to work.
You open Scripture.
You show up to church.
You call somebody instead of isolating.
You take one faithful step.
Small Obedience Is Still Obedience
Don't despise it.
Sometimes Getting Out of Bed Is Not the Problem
Sometimes You're Functioning but Still Sitting Down Inside
That's different.
You can:
Go to work.
Pay bills.
Smile.
Serve.
Lead.
Post.
Laugh.
And internally...
You stopped expecting anything from God a long time ago.
Disappointment Can Sit Down in Your Heart
You still believe in God.
Technically.
But you've stopped hoping.
You Pray Carefully Now
Because you don't want to be disappointed again.
You Dream Smaller
Not because God told you to...
But because fear did.
Arise May Mean Letting Yourself Trust God Again
Not trust your preferred outcome.
Trust Him.
There's a difference.
Faith Is Not Believing God Will Do Exactly What You Want
Faith believes God remains good when He doesn't.
That's harder.
And deeper.
Hope Has to Be Attached to God
Not a specific outcome we invented.
Otherwise our hope becomes:
“God must do this.”
And if He doesn't...
everything collapses.
Biblical Hope Says:
“Whatever happens, Jesus is still Lord, His promises are still true, and darkness still does not get the final word.”
That's stronger.
Arise Doesn't Mean Pretend You Didn't Get Hurt
This matters.
Some people use Christian language to rush healing.
“Just move on.”
“Let it go.”
“God has something better.”
Maybe.
But wounds don't disappear because somebody found a Christian phrase.
Healing and Arising Can Happen Together
You can still hurt...
And move forward.
You Don't Have to Finish Healing Before You Start Living
Sometimes healing happens while you're walking.
Scars Are Not Proof God Failed
The resurrected Jesus still had scars.
Think about that.
Resurrection Did Not Pretend the Wounds Never Happened
It proved the wounds didn't win.
🔥
Maybe That's Your Version of Arise
Not:
“Nothing happened to me.”
But:
“What happened to me will not become my master.”
Don't Build Your Identity Around the Darkest Thing You've Lived Through
It may explain part of your story.
It does not own the ending.
Isaiah Says Shine
And here's where Christians can accidentally become exhausting.
😂
Because sometimes we think shining means:
Always cheerful.
Always successful.
Always energetic.
Always posting inspirational stuff.
Never struggling.
Never questioning.
Never crying.
That's Not Light
Sometimes that's performance.
Light Tells the Truth
If you're hurting...
You can say you're hurting.
If you need prayer...
Ask.
If you're struggling...
Talk to somebody trustworthy.
Authenticity and Faith Are Not Enemies
You can say:
“This is hard.”
And:
“God is faithful.”
in the same sentence.
That's Actually Powerful Testimony
Anybody can praise after the breakthrough.
Faith becomes visible when someone says:
“I still don't understand this, but I'm staying with Jesus.”
Sometimes Shining Looks Like Staying
Staying faithful.
Staying honest.
Staying prayerful.
Staying kind.
Staying obedient.
Not Every Light Is a Spotlight
Some lights are little lamps burning quietly in dark rooms.
And they matter.
Stop Comparing Your Lamp to Somebody Else's Stadium Lights
😂
Social media makes this difficult.
Somebody else's ministry has:
Your Bible study has six people and somebody forgot snacks.
😂
Be faithful.
Jesus Is Not Confused About Your Assignment
If He gave you six people...
Love six people.
Kingdom Impact Cannot Always Be Counted
You may never know what one faithful conversation did.
One prayer.
One act of generosity.
One apology.
One invitation.
One Scripture shared at the right moment.
We Are Obsessed With Scale
God Is Obsessed With Faithfulness
Look at Jesus.
He could have gathered massive crowds constantly.
Instead, He spent enormous time with twelve.
And even closer time with three.
Bigger Is Not Automatically More Anointed
That's important.
Growth Can Be Good
Absolutely.
But growth isn't God.
Sometimes Success Is Obedience With No Applause
Ouch.
Don't Turn God's Light Into Your Spotlight
Let's come back to this.
Because this can sneak in quietly.
You Start Something for Jesus
Then people notice.
Then compliments come.
Then numbers grow.
Then opportunities come.
And somewhere along the way...
You begin needing the attention.
Approval Can Become Addictive
Especially when it's attached to ministry.
Because now we can call our addiction:
“Impact.”
😂🔥
Ask Yourself:
If nobody knew I did this...
Would I still do it?
That's an Uncomfortable Question
Would you give if nobody could see?
Serve if nobody thanked you?
Create if nobody praised you?
Pray if nobody knew?
Hidden Obedience Exposes Our Motives
Jesus talked about giving, praying, and fasting without performing for people.
There is something spiritually healthy about doing things only God sees.
Practice Being Unseen Sometimes
Not because visibility is sinful.
But because your soul needs to remember:
God's attention is enough.
Your Worth Cannot Depend on Engagement
Likes fluctuate.
Views fluctuate.
Revenue fluctuates.
Attendance fluctuates.
Algorithms change.
People leave.
Jesus Doesn't Unfollow You
😂
Thank God.
Your Identity Must Be Deeper Than Your Metrics
You are not:
Your follower count.
Your sales.
Your church attendance.
Your productivity.
Your body.
Your title.
Your accomplishments.
In Christ, You Belong to Him
Start there.
Then Use Whatever Platform He Gives You
But hold it with open hands.
Platforms Are Tools
Not Thrones
🔥
Isaiah Describes Nations Coming Toward the Light
Again...
They're attracted to God's glory.
Not human greatness.
What Are People Supposed to See in Us?
Not perfection.
Jesus.
Maybe They See Forgiveness
You had every reason to become bitter...
But Jesus changed you.
Maybe They See Integrity
Everybody else is cutting corners.
You don't.
Maybe They See Peace
Not because your life is easy...
But because your confidence isn't anchored to circumstances.
Maybe They See Generosity
You treat money like a tool instead of a god.
Maybe They See Repentance
This one gets overlooked.
A Christian saying:
“I was wrong. Please forgive me.”
can shine incredibly bright in a world addicted to self-justification.
Sometimes Your Light Is Your Apology
That's good.
People Don't Need Christians Pretending to Be Perfect
They need Christians who know where forgiveness is found.
Isaiah Describes Rebuilding
And rebuilding deserves patience.
Building Is Usually Faster Than Rebuilding
Because rebuilding includes cleanup.
😂
Before you build something new...
You may need to remove what's broken.
Rebuilding Trust Takes Time
One apology doesn't instantly restore years of damaged trust.
Forgiveness and Trust Are Different
You can forgive someone...
And still require time before trusting them again.
Trust Is Rebuilt Through Consistency
Truth.
Time.
Accountability.
Changed behavior.
“I Said Sorry” Is the Beginning
Not always the completion.
If You Broke Trust, Don't Rush the Person You Hurt
Let your changed behavior speak over time.
Repentance Does Not Demand Immediate Access
That's important.
Rebuilding Finances Takes Time Too
Maybe you made bad decisions.
Debt piled up.
You finally decided:
Enough.
Praise God.
Now comes the less exciting spiritual discipline:
A budget.
😂
Sometimes Restoration Looks Like a Spreadsheet
Not very cinematic.
Still holy.
Pray Over the Budget
Then follow it.
Faith and Wisdom Work Together
Don't pray:
“Lord, restore my finances.”
while continuing the exact habits that destroyed them.
Rebuilding Health May Require New Rhythms
Sleep.
Movement.
Medical care.
Rest.
Boundaries.
Nutrition.
We Are Whole People
Spiritual maturity doesn't require ignoring the body God gave you.
Rebuilding Relationships Requires Different Materials
If the old relationship was built on:
People pleasing.
Manipulation.
Codependency.
Avoiding conflict.
Dishonesty.
Then rebuilding cannot simply mean:
“Let's go back to normal.”
Normal may have been the problem.
Don't Ask God to Restore Dysfunction
Ask Him to build something healthier.
Restoration Does Not Always Mean Reconciliation
That's another important distinction.
You can forgive somebody...
And still not return to the same relationship.
Some Doors Should Stay Closed
Especially where there is ongoing abuse, manipulation, danger, or refusal to change.
Forgiveness Does Not Require Repeated Access to Harm You
We can forgive.
Pray.
Release vengeance to God.
And maintain wise boundaries.
Rebuilding With Wisdom Is Not Bitterness
Isaiah Describes Beauty Where There Had Been Ruin
And maybe we assume beauty means everything gets returned exactly as it was.
But God is not limited to restoring copies.
Sometimes God Makes Something New
The Bible ends with:
A new heaven and a new earth.
Not merely the old world patched with duct tape.
😂
God Is a Redeemer, Not a Nostalgia Machine
🔥
Stop Worshiping the Old Version of Your Life
Maybe something really was beautiful.
Thank God for it.
Grieve its loss if needed.
But don't miss what God is doing now because you're constantly staring backward.
Yesterday's Manna Cannot Feed Today's Assignment
Israel learned that.
Ask:
“God, what does faithfulness look like now?”
Not only:
“How do I get back there?”
Maybe You Aren't Supposed to Go Back
Maybe you're supposed to go forward differently.
Isaiah Talks About Resources Coming Into God's Restored City
Let's talk about stewardship.
Because resources aren't only money.
God May Give You:
Time.
Skill.
Knowledge.
Influence.
Relationships.
Property.
Creativity.
Experience.
Money.
The Question Is Not Only “How Much Do I Have?”
It's:
“Who does it belong to?”
Stewardship Begins With Ownership
If everything ultimately belongs to God...
Then we're managers.
That Changes Money
Instead of:
“How much do I have to give God?”
Maybe:
“God, how do You want me to use what You've entrusted to me?”
That's a Bigger Question
Because now the other 90% belongs under His lordship too.
😂
Generosity Is Not Only About Giving More
It's about holding less tightly.
You Can Have Money Without Money Having You
That's the goal.
And You Can Have Very Little While Still Worshiping Money
Because greed isn't measured only by bank balance.
Contentment Exposes Greed
Can I thank God for enough?
Consumer Culture Says:
More.
Upgrade.
Replace.
Compare.
Acquire.
Jesus Says Life Is More Than Possessions
That is freedom.
Enjoy Good Gifts
We don't need to become weird about this.
😂
Enjoy the meal.
Enjoy the house.
Enjoy the vacation.
Enjoy the car.
Enjoy the gift.
Thank God.
Gratitude Keeps Gifts From Becoming Gods
Isaiah Shows People From Different Nations Coming Together
This challenges tribal Christianity.
The Gospel Makes a Family Out of People Who Wouldn't Naturally Choose Each Other
Different:
Cultures.
Languages.
Economic backgrounds.
Political opinions.
Personalities.
Generations.
Church Would Be Easier If Everybody Was Exactly Like You
😂
It would also be terrifying.
Unity Is Not Sameness
Biblical unity has diversity inside it.
Jesus Is Strong Enough to Hold Different People Together
When Jesus becomes secondary...
everything else becomes primary.
Then division explodes.
We Should Be Known More by Our Allegiance to Christ Than Our Earthly Tribe
That's hard in polarized times.
But necessary.
Your Political Neighbor Is Still Your Neighbor
Your ideological opponent is still made in God's image.
Conviction Does Not Require Contempt
🔥
You can believe somebody is deeply wrong...
Without hating them.
Jesus Told Us to Love Enemies
He did not include an election-year exemption.
😂
Isaiah Says Violence Will End
Until then...
We are called to be peacemakers.
Peacemaking Is Not Avoiding Truth
Sometimes peace requires confrontation.
Peace and Niceness Are Not Identical
Jesus was peaceful.
He was not passive.
Biblical Peacemaking Pursues What Is Right
Truth.
Justice.
Reconciliation where possible.
Protection for the vulnerable.
Sometimes Peace Requires Boundaries
Sometimes reporting wrongdoing.
Sometimes saying:
“No.”
Peace Is Not Pretending Evil Isn't Happening
Isaiah's Vision Gives Us a Future Worth Practicing For
We know God's kingdom will be filled with:
Justice.
Peace.
Truth.
Worship.
People from the nations.
So we practice those kingdom values now.
Christians Are Supposed to Be Sneak Previews of the Coming Kingdom
I love that.
Not perfect previews.
😂
But real ones.
Our Churches Should Give People a Glimpse
Of reconciliation.
Generosity.
Truth.
Grace.
Justice.
Love.
Our Homes Should Too
Our Businesses Can Too
Pay honestly.
Treat people with dignity.
Keep promises.
Don't exploit.
Serve well.
Your Workplace Can Become a Place Where Light Shows Up
Not because you put a Bible verse on every invoice.
😂
Maybe you do.
Fine.
But also:
Tell the truth.
Do good work.
Treat people fairly.
Keep your word.
Excellence and Integrity Preach Too
Isaiah Says God Will Be the Everlasting Light
This is where everyday worries get placed against eternity.
Some Things Feel Huge Because We're Standing Too Close
Zoom out.
Not to minimize them.
But to see them inside eternity.
The Thing Keeping You Awake Tonight Will Not Follow You Forever
For those in Christ...
There is a world coming where:
Death is gone.
Mourning is gone.
Pain is gone.
Darkness is gone.
Eternity Changes the Scale
It doesn't make today's pain imaginary.
It reminds us today's pain isn't permanent.
Christians Can Grieve Differently
Not less deeply.
Differently.
We Grieve With Hope
Because goodbye is not always forever.
Death Is Still an Enemy
But It Is a Defeated Enemy
Jesus rose.
That's why Christian hope is not positive thinking.
It's resurrection.
Isaiah Says Mourning Will End
Imagine the final funeral.
Somewhere in God's story...
There will be one.
And then never another.
No More Obituaries
No more hospice rooms.
No more cemetery plots.
No more phone calls that change everything.
That's Where History Is Going
For God's redeemed people.
Toward life.
So Arise
Not because life is easy.
Not because you have every answer.
Not because you're finished healing.
Not because you're naturally strong.
Arise Because Morning Is Coming
Waiting for God's Timing
Then we reach that final promise.
God says He will accomplish His purposes at the right time.
Waiting Is One of the Hardest Forms of Faith
Because you can't measure progress.
We Like Obedience With Immediate Feedback
Pray.
Answer.
Give.
Receive.
Obey.
Breakthrough.
😂
Nice.
Sometimes You Obey and Nothing Changes Immediately
That's where trust grows.
Don't Interpret Delay as Abandonment
Abraham waited.
Joseph waited.
David waited.
Israel waited.
The world waited for Messiah.
Jesus Arrived at the Right Time
God was not scrambling.
But Waiting Is Not Always Passive
Noah waited for rain...
while building an ark.
Waiting Can Have Work Attached to It
🔥
Maybe you're waiting for:
A job.
Prepare.
A spouse.
Grow.
A ministry opportunity.
Serve where you are.
Financial restoration.
Budget.
Healing.
Follow wise care.
Direction.
Do the last clear thing God showed you.
Don't Use “Waiting on God” to Avoid Responsibility
😂
Sometimes we're not waiting.
We're procrastinating spiritually.
“God, Show Me What to Do”
He did.
Start There
But Don't Force Doors Either
There's another extreme.
We become impatient...
So we manufacture the answer.
Abraham and Sarah Tried That
Ishmael happened.
Read Genesis.
😂
Don't Create a Shortcut and Call It God's Provision
If you have to:
Lie.
Manipulate.
Compromise.
Hide.
Disobey Scripture.
To get there...
That's not faithful waiting.
God's Promise Never Requires Sin to Accomplish It
🔥
Waiting Has Two Ditches
Passivity.
And manipulation.
Faith walks between them.
Work While You Wait
Without trying to become God.
Pray
Prepare.
Obey.
Trust.
And Leave the Timing With Him
That's the hard part.
Maybe God Is Doing Hidden Work
Again, we can't promise He's secretly arranging the exact outcome you want.
But we can know He is always accomplishing His purposes.
Roots Grow Before Fruit Appears
A tree can look quiet above ground while enormous development happens underneath.
God Cares About Roots
We care about fruit.
😂
Sometimes Delay Develops Character
Patience.
Humility.
Endurance.
Dependence.
Wisdom.
The Thing You're Waiting For Might Not Be the Only Thing God Is Working On
He may also be working on you.
Don't Waste the Waiting Room
🔥
Ask Different Questions
Instead of only:
“God, when?”
Ask:
“God, what are You teaching me here?”
“How can I obey You today?”
“What needs to grow in me?”
“Who can I serve while I wait?”
Waiting Does Not Put Your Calling on Pause
You can still love people.
Serve.
Give.
Pray.
Create.
Grow.
Your Life Is Happening Now
Don't postpone all joy until one prayer gets answered.
“I'll Be Happy When...”
Dangerous sentence.
When I get married.
When I make more money.
When the business grows.
When I move.
When the kids change.
When my health improves.
There Will Always Be Another “When”
Contentment learns to find God here.
This Does Not Mean Stop Wanting Good Things
Desire isn't the enemy.
Worship is the issue.
You Can Want Something Without Needing It to Be God
🔥
Hold Desires Open-Handed
“Father, I would love this.”
And:
“I trust You if Your answer is different.”
That's mature prayer.
Isaiah 60 Is About a Future God Guarantees
That's where our confidence rests.
Not in every temporary circumstance turning out exactly as we hoped.
But in God's kingdom actually coming.
Jesus Really Will Return
Death really will end.
Justice really will come.
God really will dwell with His people.
Darkness really will disappear.
Those Aren't Motivational Possibilities
They are Christian hope.
So We Live Backward From the Ending
Because we know where the story goes...
we live differently now.
If Darkness Loses...
Don't Make Peace With Darkness
If truth wins...
Tell truth.
If God's kingdom includes every nation...
Love across boundaries.
If violence ends...
Practice peace.
If possessions won't last...
Practice generosity.
If Jesus is King...
Obey Him now.
The Future Kingdom Shapes Present Faithfulness
That's Isaiah 60 in everyday life.
Character of God
God Brings Light Into Darkness
He doesn't deny darkness.
He overcomes it.
God Restores With Purpose
His restoration points toward His glory.
God Is Worth Waiting For
His timing may frustrate us.
But He is trustworthy.
God Sees Small Faithfulness
What nobody applauds...
He sees.
God Is Not Impressed by Our Spotlight
He wants hearts that reflect His glory.
God Is Building Toward Something Permanent
Every earthly kingdom ends.
His doesn't.
See Jesus Here
Jesus said:
He is the Light of the world.
That's where Isaiah 60 keeps taking us.
We don't manufacture light.
We receive Him.
Jesus Entered Darkness
Not metaphorically only.
He entered:
Human suffering.
Rejection.
Grief.
Temptation.
Injustice.
Death.
Then He Walked Out of the Grave
🔥
That's why darkness doesn't get the final word.
The Resurrection Is God's Announcement That Morning Is Coming
Jesus' resurrection is the firstfruits.
Death's defeat has begun.
So When Jesus Says Follow Me...
We follow the One who already walked through death and came out alive.
That's Why We Can Arise
Not because we're fearless.
Because our Savior is alive.
That's Why We Can Shine
Not because we're impressive.
Because our Savior is Light.
That's Why We Can Wait
Not because waiting feels good.
Because our Savior keeps promises.
That's Why We Can Rebuild
Not because everything will return exactly as it was.
Because our Savior makes all things new.
The Lie vs. The Truth
The Lie
“If I don't see immediate progress, God must not be working. If I'm not impressive, my obedience doesn't matter. And if restoration doesn't look like the past, God must have failed me.”
The Truth
“God sees small faithfulness. I can arise one obedient step at a time, reflect Jesus without performing for people, rebuild with wisdom, and trust God's timing even when His restoration looks different from what I expected.”
Live Like Dawn Is Coming
Maybe that's the invitation of Isaiah 60.
Not:
Pretend it's already noon.
😂
The night may still be dark.
You may still be waiting.
Still grieving.
Still rebuilding.
Still praying.
Still wondering what God is doing.
But Christians have been given something darkness cannot take:
We know morning is coming.
Jesus has already entered the darkness.
He has already gone to the cross.
He has already walked out of the grave.
And He has promised that this broken world is not the final version.
So arise.
Maybe slowly.
Maybe with tears.
Maybe still tired.
But arise.
Shine.
Maybe nobody notices.
That's okay.
The point was never the spotlight.
Reflect Jesus.
Rebuild.
But don't worship yesterday.
Use better materials this time.
Wait.
But don't become passive.
Prepare.
Obey.
Serve.
Pray.
And don't manipulate a shortcut because God's timing feels slow.
Hold your desires openly.
Enjoy today's grace while waiting for tomorrow's answer.
And remember:
One day there really will be no more darkness.
No more mourning.
No more violence.
No more death.
God Himself will be the everlasting light of His people.
Until then...
Live like dawn is coming.
Did You Notice?
Isaiah 60 begins with a command:
Arise. Shine.
And ends with God's action:
At the right time, He will make it happen.
I love that.
Because there's our responsibility...
And God's sovereignty.
We arise.
God accomplishes His purposes.
Did You Notice God Didn't Tell Them to Create the Light?
This might be one of the most important details in the chapter.
They weren't told:
“Produce enough light.”
The light had already come.
God's glory was shining.
Their job was to respond.
We Are Reflectors, Not Sources
That takes pressure off.
You don't have to manufacture enough:
Joy.
Strength.
Wisdom.
Power.
Goodness.
To impress God.
You need Jesus.
Stay Near the Light
If we're going to reflect Christ...
We have to remain close to Christ.
Scripture.
Prayer.
Worship.
Christian community.
Obedience.
Repentance.
You Cannot Reflect Someone You Never Spend Time With
That's worth thinking about.
We can become so busy doing things for Jesus that we spend very little time actually being with Jesus.
Ministry Is Not a Substitute for Communion
Serving God is good.
Knowing God is better.
Did You Notice Darkness and Light Exist in the Same Verse?
Darkness covers the earth.
But God's glory rises.
That means biblical hope can hold two realities at once.
Things are dark.
And:
God is still good.
Faith Doesn't Require Lying About the Darkness
You don't have to call:
Cancer good.
Abuse good.
Death good.
Betrayal good.
Sin good.
God Can Redeem Something Without Calling the Thing Itself Good
That's important.
Romans 8 does not mean every event is good.
It means God is powerful enough to work through even what is broken.
Darkness Doesn't Become Light Because We Rename It
God overcomes darkness.
Did You Notice the Command Was “Arise”?
There are moments when faith means resting.
There are moments when faith means standing.
Discernment matters.
Some People Need Permission to Rest
Others need permission to get moving.
😂
And sometimes we're both people depending on the day.
Ask the Better Question
Not:
“Do I feel like doing this?”
But:
“What does faithfulness require today?”
Maybe rest.
Maybe action.
Maybe both in proper measure.
Did You Notice Arising Comes Before Shining?
Interesting.
Sometimes we want impact before obedience.
We want:
Influence.
Calling.
Platform.
Purpose.
Opportunity.
But maybe the first step is simply:
Get up.
Stop Waiting for a Stage to Start Being Faithful
🔥
You don't need:
A microphone.
A ministry title.
A business.
A book.
A podcast.
To reflect Jesus.
Your Kitchen Can Be Holy Ground
So can:
Your workplace.
Your truck.
Your classroom.
Your shop.
Your hospital room.
Your office.
Your neighborhood.
Did You Notice the Nations Were Drawn to God's Light?
Not Israel's marketing strategy.
😂
God's glory.
Attraction Without Truth Isn't the Goal
The church isn't called merely to become appealing.
We are called to reflect Christ.
Grace.
Truth.
Holiness.
Love.
Justice.
Mercy.
Sometimes Light Attracts
Sometimes Light Exposes
Jesus taught both.
Light can draw someone toward truth.
And light can reveal things someone would rather keep hidden.
Don't Change the Light Because Somebody Doesn't Like What It Reveals
But also...
Don't use truth as an excuse to be cruel.
Truth and Love Belong Together
Jesus embodied both perfectly.
Did You Notice People From Everywhere Were Coming?
Isaiah's vision is international.
God's kingdom is not tribal.
Heaven Will Not Be Segregated by Our Earthly Categories
Every tribe.
Language.
People.
Nation.
Gathered around the Lamb.
The Gospel Destroys Superiority
Nobody arrives because their:
Country.
Race.
Family.
Income.
Education.
Political party.
Made them worthy.
We arrive through Jesus.
The Cross Has One Entrance
Grace.
Did You Notice Wealth Was Moving Toward God's Purposes?
Again, this chapter is not:
“God wants everybody rich.”
The resources of nations are pictured flowing toward God's restored kingdom and glory.
Resources Are Supposed to Serve the King
Not replace Him.
Money Makes a Great Servant
And a Terrible God
Ask a Better Money Question
Instead of only:
“Can I afford this?”
Ask:
“Does this honor what God has entrusted to me?”
Different question.
Stewardship Includes Enjoyment Too
God isn't against enjoying His gifts.
Thank Him.
Enjoy them.
Share them.
Don't worship them.
Did You Notice Restoration Was Visible?
People could see what God had rebuilt.
That means testimony matters.
Your Testimony Is Not:
“Look how amazing I became.”
It's:
“Look what Jesus did.”
Tell the Truth About the Before
But don't glorify the darkness.
That's important.
Sometimes testimonies spend 90% of the time making sin sound exciting...
Then:
“Anyway, Jesus saved me.”
😂
Make Jesus the Interesting Part
🔥
Did You Notice Rebuilding Didn't Erase History?
The city had still been broken.
The abandonment had still happened.
The ruins were real.
Restoration did not rewrite history.
It redeemed what came next.
Healing Doesn't Require Amnesia
You can remember...
Without remaining trapped there.
Forgiveness Doesn't Mean Pretending Nothing Happened
Neither does restoration.
Scars Can Tell a Story Without Becoming Your Identity
Jesus' resurrected body still bore scars.
The wounds were real.
But the wounds no longer controlled the story.
Did You Notice God Used Unexpected People?
Foreigners participate in rebuilding.
Kings assist.
Resources arrive from places the people may not have expected.
God Doesn't Need Your Plan to Match His
😂
We make a beautiful plan.
Step 1.
Step 2.
Step 3.
God:
“Interesting.”
😂
Hold the Plan Loosely
Hold God tightly.
Planning Is Wise
Control Is an Illusion
Make plans.
Budget.
Prepare.
Schedule.
Build.
But leave room for God to redirect.
Did You Notice the Gates Stay Open?
That picture eventually echoes into Revelation 21.
The gates of the New Jerusalem never close.
Why?
There is no night.
No threat.
No enemy.
We Lock Doors Because Something Might Come In
Imagine a kingdom where nothing harmful exists to keep out.
That's where Scripture is taking us.
Safety Will One Day Be Complete
No alarm systems.
No locks.
No weapons.
No fear.
No watching over your shoulder.
We Have Never Known That World
But God's people will.
Did You Notice Violence Ends?
This is one of Isaiah 60's most beautiful promises.
Violence will disappear.
Destruction ends.
God Is Not Building an Eternal Kingdom Full of Fear
He's building one filled with peace.
That Should Affect Us Now
If peace belongs to the kingdom we're headed toward...
Practice it.
Peacemakers Are Practicing Eternity
🔥
That Doesn't Mean Avoiding Conflict
Sometimes peace requires difficult conversations.
Sometimes justice.
Sometimes boundaries.
Sometimes accountability.
Biblical Peace Is More Than Everybody Being Quiet
Sometimes everybody is quiet because everyone is afraid.
That's not peace.
Peace Has Truth Inside It
Did You Notice Salvation Becomes the Wall?
That's incredible imagery.
Walls normally represented protection.
God says salvation will surround His people.
Our Ultimate Security Is God
Not:
Money.
Government.
Health.
Relationships.
Career.
Those Can Change Overnight
God doesn't.
Earthly Security Is Temporary
Eternal Security Is Found in Christ
Did You Notice Praise Becomes the Gate?
Imagine entering through praise.
There's something beautiful there.
Gratitude Changes How We Enter the Day
Before:
News.
Notifications.
Email.
Problems.
Try praise.
Your Phone Does Not Need to Disciple You Before Jesus Does
😂🔥
That one might hurt.
Before You Let the World Tell You What's Wrong...
Remember what's eternally right.
Jesus is alive.
God is faithful.
Grace is real.
The kingdom is coming.
Did You Notice God Becomes the Everlasting Light?
This is the climax.
Not:
Gold.
Wealth.
Influence.
Rebuilt walls.
Returning people.
Those are beautiful.
But the greatest thing is:
God Himself.
Heaven Is Heaven Because God Is There
That's the treasure.
If Our Version of Heaven Sounds Amazing Without Jesus...
We may have misunderstood heaven.
The Greatest Promise Is Presence
Always has been.
Eden Had God's Presence
Sin brought separation.
The tabernacle pictured God's presence among His people.
Jesus came as Emmanuel:
God with us.
The Spirit dwells in believers.
And Revelation ends with God dwelling with His people forever.
The Bible Is a Story Moving Toward Presence
🔥
Did You Notice Mourning Ends?
This one hits differently.
One day...
You will experience your final grief.
Not Because You Become Numb
Because there will be nothing left to mourn.
Imagine That
Nothing missing.
Nothing dying.
Nothing breaking.
Nothing being diagnosed.
Nothing being buried.
Nothing being lost.
Every Tear Has an Expiration Date
For the redeemed.
That Doesn't Mean Hurry Through Today's Tears
Grieve.
Jesus wept.
Hope Doesn't Rush Grief
Hope Sits Beside It
And whispers:
“This is not forever.”
Did You Notice God Calls His People His Planting?
The imagery emphasizes God's work.
He planted.
He formed.
He receives glory.
Your Life Is Ultimately His Workmanship
Ephesians 2 says we are God's masterpiece, created in Christ Jesus for good works.
You Are Not a Self-Made Christian
😂
Nobody is.
Grace made the first move.
God Gets the Glory Because God Did the Saving
Did You Notice the Small Becomes Great?
Again:
Not necessarily internet-famous.
Not necessarily wealthy.
Not necessarily globally influential.
God Defines Greatness Differently
Jesus said the greatest becomes a servant.
That changes everything.
Maybe Heaven's Great People Are People Earth Barely Noticed
The praying grandmother.
The faithful dad.
The quiet pastor.
The honest employee.
The generous widow.
The missionary nobody followed online.
The believer who suffered faithfully.
Heaven Knows Names Algorithms Never Learned
🔥
Don't Confuse Visibility With Value
God sees hidden faithfulness.
Did You Notice the Chapter Ends With Timing?
After all these huge promises...
God closes with timing.
“At the Right Time”
There's the part we don't control.
😂
We Can Obey
We Can Prepare
We Can Pray
We Can Work
We cannot control timing.
Stop Digging Up Seeds to See if They're Growing
😂
Imagine planting a seed Monday.
Tuesday:
Dig it up.
“Anything yet?”
Replant.
Wednesday:
Dig again.
That's what impatience can do spiritually.
Give Some Things Time
Character.
Trust.
Healing.
Ministry.
Business.
Relationships.
Discipleship.
Healthy Things Often Grow Slowly
Not always.
But often.
Fast Growth Can Produce Weak Roots
God may care more about whether you can carry something than how quickly you receive it.
Don't Ask Only for Increase
Ask for Capacity
🔥
If God expands your influence...
Can your character carry it?
If He increases your finances...
Can your stewardship carry it?
If He expands your ministry...
Can your spiritual life carry it?
Blessing Without Character Can Become Destruction
We've seen that throughout Scripture.
Let God Build the Person Before Expanding the Platform
Waiting Is Not Wasted When God Is Forming You
Did You Notice God Says HE Will Do It?
That is where striving can finally breathe.
Some Things Are Your Responsibility
Obedience.
Integrity.
Preparation.
Repentance.
Faithfulness.
Some Things Are God's Responsibility
Results.
Timing.
Doors.
Outcomes.
Growth.
Stop Trying to Do God's Half
😂🔥
That will exhaust you.
Your Job Is Faithfulness
God's Job Is God
See Jesus Here
Isaiah 60 is soaked in imagery that leads toward Jesus.
The world is dark.
Jesus comes as Light.
The nations are drawn.
Jesus sends the gospel to the nations.
Kings bring gifts.
Wise men bring gifts to Jesus.
A restored kingdom is described.
Jesus announces God's kingdom.
Violence ends.
Jesus is the Prince of Peace.
Mourning ends.
Jesus defeats death.
God becomes everlasting light.
Revelation says the Lamb illuminates the city.
Jesus Is the Dawn Isaiah Was Pointing Toward
He came once.
He will come again.
We Live Between Two Dawns
The first coming of Jesus:
Light entered the world.
The return of Jesus:
Darkness ends forever.
That's Where We Live
Between:
It is finished.
And:
Behold, I am making everything new.
The Battle Is Won
But We Still Live in the Battlefield
That explains a lot.
Sin has been defeated...
But temptation remains.
Death has been defeated...
But people still die.
The kingdom has come...
But we still pray:
“Your kingdom come.”
Already
And Not Yet
Jesus is King now.
And one day every eye will see it.
That's Why We Can Have Hope Without Pretending Everything Is Fixed
Because everything isn't fixed yet.
But Jesus Is Already King
So the ending isn't uncertain.
Main Takeaway
Darkness is real, but it is not final. Jesus is the Light, and because we belong to Him, we can arise, reflect His glory, rebuild faithfully, and trust God with the timing.
Or even simpler:
Live like dawn is coming.
The Lie vs. The Truth
The Lie
“Because I cannot see the outcome yet, nothing is happening. I need to force the timing, create my own light, and prove my life matters.”
The Truth
“Jesus is the Light. My job is not to manufacture glory or control outcomes. I can arise, obey, reflect Christ, and trust God to accomplish His purposes at the right time.”
Reflection Questions
Is there an area where God may be calling me to arise instead of remaining stuck?
Am I genuinely resting, or have fear and disappointment convinced me to quit?
What would one small act of obedience look like today?
Am I trying to manufacture strength instead of staying close to Jesus?
Does my life point people toward Christ—or mostly toward me?
Have I turned God's light into my spotlight anywhere?
Would I still serve if nobody noticed?
Do metrics affect my sense of worth more than they should?
Is there something broken I am trying to rebuild exactly as it used to be?
What new wisdom should become part of the rebuilding?
Am I worshiping an old season instead of asking God what faithfulness looks like now?
Is there a resource God has entrusted to me that I need to steward differently?
Do I treat money as a tool or as security?
Is there someone different from me whom I have struggled to love?
Am I pursuing peace without avoiding truth?
What grief am I carrying that needs the hope of eternity?
Where am I frustrated with God's timing?
Am I being passive when I should prepare?
Am I manipulating circumstances because I am tired of waiting?
What belongs to my responsibility today—and what belongs to God?
Action Step
THE ARISE AUDIT
Take a piece of paper and write:
ARISE. SHINE. TRUST.
Then make three sections.
1. ARISE
Ask:
“Where have I stayed down?”
Maybe:
After failure.
After rejection.
After disappointment.
After grief.
After somebody hurt you.
After something didn't work.
Write one area.
Then write:
“What is one faithful step I can take today?”
Not twenty.
One.
Maybe It's:
Make the call.
Open Scripture.
Return to church.
Send the application.
Create again.
Apologize.
Ask for help.
Make the appointment.
Start the budget.
Set the boundary.
Then Do It
Small obedience counts.
2. SHINE
Ask:
“Where has God's light become my spotlight?”
Look honestly at:
Work.
Business.
Ministry.
Social media.
Serving.
Giving.
Leadership.
Then Ask:
“Would I still do this if nobody knew?”
If the answer hurts...
Good information.
😂
Not condemnation.
Information.
Practice One Hidden Act of Obedience
Do something this week that nobody needs to know about.
Give.
Serve.
Pray.
Encourage.
Help.
Don't Post It
😂
Let God be the audience.
3. TRUST
Write the thing you're waiting on.
Then divide the page into two columns:
MY RESPONSIBILITY
What can I actually do?
Pray.
Prepare.
Budget.
Learn.
Apply.
Apologize.
Serve.
Obey.
Seek counsel.
GOD'S RESPONSIBILITY
Timing.
Results.
Other people's decisions.
Open doors.
Closed doors.
Growth.
The final outcome.
Stop Moving Things Into the Wrong Column
🔥
If it's God's...
Give it back.
Write This at the Bottom
“I WILL OBEY WITHOUT TRYING TO CONTROL.”
Then underneath:
“I WILL LIVE LIKE DAWN IS COMING.”
Prayer
Father,
Thank You for Isaiah 60.
Thank You that darkness does not get the final word.
Thank You that when the world was covered in darkness...
You sent Light.
Jesus.
Thank You that I do not have to manufacture light inside myself.
I don't have to pretend to be stronger than I am.
I don't have to perform joy.
I don't have to create my own glory.
You are the Source.
Keep me close to You.
Father, show me where I need to arise.
If I genuinely need rest...
teach me to rest without guilt.
But if fear has become an excuse...
show me.
If disappointment has convinced me to stay down...
show me.
If shame keeps replaying yesterday...
show me.
Give me courage to stand again.
Maybe slowly.
Maybe still hurting.
Maybe without knowing exactly what comes next.
Help me take the next faithful step.
Jesus, teach me to shine without performing.
I don't want Your light to become my spotlight.
Protect my heart when people notice.
Protect my heart when nobody notices.
Keep me from measuring my worth through followers, views, money, applause, titles, attendance, or achievements.
If You give me influence...
make me humble enough to point beyond myself.
If You give me success...
make me trustworthy with it.
If You keep my assignment small...
make me faithful there too.
Father, teach me hidden obedience.
Help me serve when nobody applauds.
Give when nobody knows.
Pray when nobody sees.
Love people who cannot advance me.
Let Your attention be enough.
Father, thank You for restoration.
You rebuild.
You redeem.
You make things new.
But help me stop demanding that restoration look exactly like the past.
If You are building differently...
give me courage to accept different.
Help me learn from what broke.
If trust needs rebuilding...
give me patience.
If finances need rebuilding...
give me discipline.
If relationships need healthier boundaries...
give me wisdom.
If an old door needs to remain closed...
give me peace.
Don't let nostalgia become an idol.
I thank You for yesterday.
But I want to follow You today.
Father, everything I have belongs to You.
My money.
My time.
My business.
My creativity.
My relationships.
My influence.
My abilities.
My home.
My opportunities.
Teach me stewardship.
Help me enjoy good gifts without worshiping them.
Help me give generously without needing recognition.
Give me contentment.
Teach me the beauty of enough.
Father, thank You that Your kingdom includes people from every tribe, language, people, and nation.
Remove superiority from me.
Help me love people who are different from me.
Keep earthly tribes from becoming more important than Jesus.
Give me conviction without contempt.
Truth without cruelty.
Grace without compromise.
Make me a peacemaker.
Not someone who avoids every difficult conversation...
But someone who pursues truth, justice, reconciliation, and peace in ways that honor You.
Father, thank You that violence will not last forever.
Thank You that mourning will end.
Thank You that death will die.
Thank You that one day there will be no more funerals.
No more diagnoses.
No more final goodbyes.
No more fear.
No more darkness.
For the person grieving today...
be near.
Don't rush their grief.
Hold them inside it.
And remind them gently:
This is not forever.
Jesus, thank You for being the Light of the world.
Thank You for entering our darkness.
Thank You for going to the cross.
Thank You for walking out of the grave.
Your resurrection tells us morning is coming.
Because You live...
I have hope.
Father, help me wait well.
Your timing is difficult for me sometimes.
I want answers.
I want clarity.
I want results.
I want them quickly.
😂
Forgive me when impatience becomes distrust.
Show me what belongs to me while I wait.
If I need to prepare...
help me prepare.
If I need to work...
help me work.
If I need to learn...
help me learn.
If I need to obey something You've already shown me...
help me obey.
But keep me from forcing doors.
Keep me from manipulating outcomes.
Keep me from compromising Scripture because Your timing feels slow.
I don't want a shortcut that requires disobedience.
Father, grow my roots.
Before increase...
build capacity.
Before platform...
build character.
Before greater responsibility...
make me trustworthy with what I already have.
If something needs to grow slowly...
give me patience.
Help me stop digging up the seed every morning.
😂
Teach me to trust You with hidden growth.
Father, show me what belongs in my column...
And what belongs in Yours.
My obedience belongs to me.
My integrity.
My preparation.
My repentance.
My faithfulness.
But timing belongs to You.
Results belong to You.
Other people's choices belong to You.
The doors belong to You.
The outcome belongs to You.
Help me stop trying to do Your half.
I surrender the illusion of control.
And Father...
when darkness feels heavy...
turn my eyes toward Jesus.
When I can't see the sunrise yet...
remind me that the resurrection already happened.
The tomb is empty.
Jesus is alive.
The King is coming.
The kingdom will be complete.
And one day You will be the everlasting light of Your people.
Until then...
Help me arise.
Help me shine.
Help me rebuild.
Help me wait.
Help me trust.
Help me live like dawn is coming.
In Jesus' name,
Amen.
