Devotional
I’m not one to preach fire and brimstone, but there are still hard truths that need to be said. Some things are not popular, but they are necessary. The truth is, when we are born into this world, we are born into a fallen condition. Sin is not just something we do. It is the condition of mankind apart from Christ. Romans 3:23 makes it plain: all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
As children, there is much we do not fully understand. But as we grow and come to know right from wrong, we become accountable before God for our choices. And that reality is serious. Sin is not small. Sin separates us from a holy God. Romans 6:23 tells us the wages of sin is death. Left to ourselves, we were heading toward judgment, not because God is cruel, but because He is holy and just.
And here is the part we all need to understand: we could never fix that on our own. No amount of good works can erase sin. No church attendance, no kind deeds, no trying harder can pay the debt we owe. Ephesians 2:8-9 reminds us that salvation is by grace through faith, not by works. We were helpless to save ourselves.
But this is where the good news comes in.
Jesus stepped in where we could not. He lived the perfect life we could never live, and He took on the punishment we deserved. 2 Corinthians 5:21 shows the beauty of the gospel: He who knew no sin became sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God. That is love deeper than we can measure. John 3:16 says God so loved the world that He gave His only Son. Jesus did not die for perfect people. He died for sinners like you, me, and all of us.
When we truly receive Jesus as Savior and Lord, we are made new. We are born again. God cleanses us, and Isaiah 1:18 gives that powerful picture of sins being made white as snow. Our forgiveness is not partial. Christ’s sacrifice is enough. Hebrews 10:14 points to the completeness of what He accomplished.
That does not mean we treat grace casually. It does not mean we can live one way on Sunday and another way on Monday with no conviction. Real salvation changes the heart. Repentance is not just saying “I’m sorry.” It is a turning of the heart and mind toward God. It is a new desire to walk with Him. 1 John 1:9 reminds us that when we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us. God knows we still battle the flesh, but He also sees whether our heart truly belongs to Him. He gives us a new heart, as Ezekiel 36:26 says, and begins transforming us from the inside out.
What an amazing mercy. What an amazing love. Jesus gave His life so we would not have to spend eternity separated from God. He made a way where there was no way.
So if you do not know Jesus, maybe today is the day to say hello. Call on Him. Romans 10:9 says that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. He is not far from you. He is ready to forgive. No matter what you have done, there is grace in Jesus.
I cannot save you. No preacher can. No church can. But I can point you to the One who can. And my heart is to bring as many people to heaven with me as possible by leading them to Jesus.
Prayer
Jesus, thank You for loving me enough to die in my place. Thank You for paying the debt I could never pay on my own. I know I have sinned, and I know I need You. Cleanse me, renew me, and give me a heart that truly wants to follow You. Help me not to treat Your grace lightly, but to live with repentance, gratitude, and obedience. Thank You that no sin is too great for Your mercy when I come to You with a sincere heart. Draw those who do not know You today, and let them see that forgiveness and new life are found in You alone. In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
